Audio Backlog: Matt Nathanson, Some Mad Hope

First, I would like people to note that I'm generally on top of alternative pop, if you will. Feist? At least a few years early (and before that silly ipod commercial). But this one? I've been on this bandwagon for...oh, maybe 6 years. Here's what I mean. Matty Nay has this following. Girls, guys, young, older, all of them know each and every lyric. He's a pretty good lyricist (mostly in the way verses fit) and he's damn good at writing hooks that keep you coming back. This new album, while good, is not my favorite of his releases, but it explains him to the public -- because something was being lost in transmission earlier. Depending on how you count (EP versus album) he's put out at least 6 releases and this is the first to get radio play. He's got male acoustic rocker written all over him, at concerts he's got dirty mouth syndrome, and he's able to move hearts like no one I know. His vocal phrasing, his beautiful melodies, and his talent should capture you.
