WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Unlikely Favorite

Posted over 3 years ago
"Walking in Memphis" popped up on my iPod, today, and I sang along, like I always do. I tapped my feet like I always do. And I got weepy at the "_Ma'am I am, tonight_" part... like I always do.I should _not_ like this song. It's just not my style or my taste. But I love it. I don't listen to it every day, but I enjoy the hell out of it when it comes on. I'm almost embarrassed by it, but then again, I feel kind of a fierce pride in the song that makes me want to defend it from other people who'd belittle it - like I probably should be doing if this song weren't from bizarro-land, or something. What is _with_ this song?

  1. Manos says This is very strange. I heard this at Carls Jr. this weekend and felt the same way. I should not love this song as much as I do...and the same damn line gets to me.

  2. Takeshi Kovacs says You posted this, and I immediately started humming this song in my head. I don't know what's with it, but when it came out it was a nice complement to the Chris Issac song that they played along with it. Oh, yeah and the Extreme tune "More than Words" was out at the same time... weird all those sappy tunes hitting at the same time.

  3. democlez says I too love this song. I love piano, and it's a major part of the song.

  4. Manos says I also remember the "Pop-up Video" segment for this song. Something about Cohn not wanting to eat the food in the restauant where they shot some of the video.

  5. B42 says I think it's the rythym, the "walking beat" sorta thing, infectious....why some work and others don't though is beyond me.....

  7. democlez says Yes! Pimp hit it on the head (at least for me). I was trying to think of a way to say that exact thing yesterday. I was going to say something lame like it relives a memory and takes you along for the ride.

  8. Lester Jonze says Sorry I don't like that song at all really. I am ashamed.
