Concert Memories

Posted about 5 years ago
After seeing several advertisements for Gene Simmons TV series on A&E I was moved to dig out some Kiss music I have. Now I've never considered myself a big Kiss fan. When Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey came out I had the soundtrack and God Gave Rock and Roll To You was one of my favorite songs on that album. It also reminded me of being a kid and thinking these guys who wore all that make up were really cool. Well a few years ago they released Psycho Circus, to the pleasure of several co-workers of mine. We were able to score several tickets to shows in New Jersey as well as the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, where the band hails from. The first show was in New Jersey, and we had floor seats. I was amazed by the enthusiasm these guys had. The show was very powerful and everyone was stocked to see them. From Simmons being raised above the stage with blood dripping out of his mouth to Stanley flying across the audience to the middle of the arena, you could feel the intensity. The next night we saw them again, this time in the Garden. Stanley stopped to mention he used to dream of playing the Garden back in the day when he was a taxi driver in the city. But one of the most memorable moments for me at a concert was when Stanley flew over the audience again. This time I knew it was coming and the stage he was flying to was right by me so I ran up. While screaming the lyrics to the song at the top of my head Paul Stanley looked right at me while singing. It was just an awesome experience that I'll never forget. It was great to see these guys that as a kid I remembered seeing everywhere. They still kicked ass and could rock better than many bands out there even at the top of their game. If they ever do play another reunion tour don't pass up the opportunity, even if you don't like their music. The atmosphere is intense and you can't help but get caught up in it.
