Stream of Consciousness

The inspirational is hard to obtain.................growing up in Southern California has been interesting, to say the least I’ve never felt as if I belonged here. You walk outside and some kid hands you a flyer to his show at ......wherever. Entertaining enough, I wonder if this kids dream obtainable? I’ve seen many bands and I wonder to myself, what does it take in order for a band to achieve and truly unique and diverse sound?............and I feel that if you’re really looking to develop your own artistic vision, stay the hell out of LA. Ok ok I may be a little bit Cynical about LA but if you’ve ever been there you’ll know what I’m talking about. Los Angeles the capitalism utopia, I don’t want to digress with my rants about consumerism............Anyhoo ....It seems as though the music industry especially the radio tries to put a label and cap on what music is accessible to us (Main stream radio that is).....Fortunately we live in this day in age where it is so easy to listen to what ever the hell you want. Satellite radio and internet......I know I hop around a great deal on subject matter.... I probably have ADD. Haha That being said.........“Explosions in the Sky”Let me take a moment and glorify this fantastic band.............Here’s a story..........so I attend my first show at the knitting factory, I was with my gentlemen friend. I had never heard of the band and I was so nervous trying to keep my cool. Problem was I was never that slick girl that could float about the room.......so I found myself a cosy little spot in the corner. It was a tiny room by the way.....if it was cold outside it definitely wasn’t cold in there. We were packed like sardines hehe. The band entered the stage and the sheer sounds emoted sent chills up my spine, it was the most emotional sound I have ever heard. The band played with a feverish intensity as crowd stood still and quiet, trying to catch ever single note streaming from the guitars. Still one of the best shows I have ever seen. It would be selfish of me to say I hope they never get extremely popular........It’s nice not to having to pay $50 to see them. Haha I guess what I’m trying to achieve with this mish mash of my opinions and uncensored thoughts.........is perspective. You know.............friendships end......relationships end..........family may fall apart.........heck sometimes our whole world can be shattered .......yet music is always there when you open the door. Shit that was so cliche’ and sad..........but you all know its true. Have a good one and turn that frown upside down.-Ashley Mixon

  2. CrashPryor says ...I had a 3k word piece put out about some of this stuff Mixon, I concur with the cliche as cleesh as it might seem music really was my first, true love...always been there and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon...friends come and go...loved ones pass on...music, however, as it applies ontologically, is forever, yo...
