WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Blast from the Past: Halloween Edition and an urban warrior at the end of her rope

Posted over 3 years ago
One of the saving graces I have while sitting in LA traffic is the radio station Indie 103.1 who are playing The Damned "Grimly Fiendish" in honor of Halloween. I was so excited when I heard it(its been a LONG time)I almost crashed into a Lexus SUV. One of the many things that make me crazy about LA traffic is the fact that it takes me an hour to commute home from my office which is 9 miles away. This evening it took so long to get home I missed "Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". "I got a rock"...

  1. SWozniak says Any way to bike that? I loved weaving in and out of traffic the 7 miles to work back in Michigan.

  2. Misstee says I wish...its more dangerous. I'm on the verge of moving back East where driving won't be an issue. Fingers crossed. Condolences on the Tigers btw....

  3. Iren says That was the first song I ever heard by The Damned, and it's one that I like but don't listen to all that often. When I was in college the radio station had a show where students could come in and play the music that they were into for an hour, and some guy played that Damned tune. I recall walking across campus listening to my walkman and making a mental note to check out The Damned.

  4. Misstee says I really wasn't a big fan as a kid but I loved that song. Incidentally Indie has a show that listeners can submit a playlist and air it for an hour every week. I keep meaning to submit for it but life gets in the way.

  6. Pseudo Cyborg says Try public transportation. I use it. Sure I still hit traffic, but at least my time isn't wasted in traffic. I listen to music, read, write songs, etc.

  7. Misstee says Public Transport in LA?? Is there such a thing? And can I still get from West Hollywood to Santa Monica in under an hour? Buses get stuck in the same traffic we do and there's no trains that go to the westside. Times like these I wish I worked Downtown or Universal City then the red line would be transport of choice.

  8. Pseudo Cyborg says I take the Big Blue Bus 10 from Downtown to Santa Monica to get to work. It takes about an hour to an hour-and-a-half, so you're right about that. Still, it's much nicer than having to deal with the traffic directly. And, like you, I wish I worked in Downtown or Universal City. The Metro rails would be so much better if they only had a few more destinations—like Santa Monica. Stupid Beverly Hills and Brentwood with their N.I.M.B.Y. mentality. Ugh.
