What I loved about this song is that I could hear it on alternative stations, dance music stations, hip hop stations, r&b stations and occasionally a top 40 station(probably during their new music shows but still...)
At the time this album was released I was studying opera but couldn't quite get my head around what I was learning in school and what I was listening to at home, until I heard Fans:

So thanks Mr. McLaren for introducing me to Vivienne Westwood, the Sex Pistols, the World Famous Supreme Team, South African music(before Paul Simon), Bow Wow Wow, Opera, Willie Ninja, Vogue(before Madonna), etc etc etc...

Brilliantly explained. For me, Malcolm's greatest accomplishment was the idea that he was out there, somewhere, dreaming up a new crazy idea. There was a comment from John Lydon on the news this morning: "He was an entertainer." How true.
