WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

New Wave Wednesday: In the garden with Siouxsie

Posted over 2 years ago
While channel surfing late one night this past weekend(curse of an insomniac) I stopped to watch a few minutes of Sofia Coppola's take on Marie Antoinette. One of the sequences in the 18th century palace featured this song. And since Siouxsie has just released a solo record and will be touring soon, I figure I'd give her props today:

  1. dachmo says I haven't seen all of Marie Antoinette yet but what I saw seemed pretty good. I didn't mind the modern music either.

  2. Dale says Fair warning, David; the first time I watched it, it made little to no sense, because there's no exposition about what's going on around the royal family at the time. We went home, hopped on wiki, and read up. We then rented it on DVD, and it was much better. And yes, the music works very well, especially the scene with this song. Let me also add: As excited as I am to see Siouxsie touring again, I would love to hear what Steve Severin is doing now. He has zero flash, but might be one of the best bassists going. Look at him going to town on the bass line!

  3. Misstee says Fair Warning Dale - Steve will not be touring with Siouxsie since they split up last year. Dachmo - I didn't love Marie - I get what she was trying to do with the anachronisms(I'm hooked when Baz Luhrmann goes to town with it)but overall the film just didn't work for me and I'm a sucker for eye candy.

  4. brendanhalpin says I love this song. How many tributes to Chinese Restaurants are there, really?

  5. dharmachris says LOVE that song! Not sure I loved the movie. There were way too many music video moments in it, and not nearly enough scenes that moved the story along.

  6. Misstee says Brendan - I had no idea - makes me love the song all the more! Chris - spot on with your review, thats exactly what was lacking, but it was beautifully shot.
