Tafari Makonnen (1892-1975) was crowned Emperor of
Ethiopia in 1930 and became known as Haile Selassie I. The Rastafarian movement, which emerged in Jamaica in the 1930’s regarded Haile Selaissie as a redeemer of black people. There are estimated to be over 1 million Rastafarians worldwide. The birthday of Haile Selassie is one of the holiest day of the Rastafarian year and is celebrated with drumming, hymns and prayer
This track by Dennis Brown describes Ethiopia as the promised land.

My Trusted MOGs
The first Jamaican roots record ever to be released on a rhythm recordded and released by a British reggae band - Aswad's "Love Fire".
This was a great source of pride back then to their manager/producer Mikey "Big Dread" Campbell

My Trusted MOGs
Wow! I did not know today was his birthday! Haile Selassie gave my church an antique Ethiopain Croptic cross back in the 1954. I wish I were alive to see that and experience the church's love of Haile Selassie.
