I Heart Mash-Ups
-
Artist:Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs The Cure
-
Track:In Between Hearts
Just markin’ time here on a Monday afternoon (Pacific Daylight Time), but thought I would take a break from listening (obsessively) to the latest Editors album and (ecstatically) to the new Crowded House release to post a potent rock cocktail from Toronto, Canada DJ/producer Lock3down. (Good luck trying to pronounce his name.)If you’re fond of British new-wavers The Cure, you probably get off on the rousing “In Between Days” from their 1985 album The Head in the Door. (I do.) Well, Lock3down has mashed up that number with the equally stirring "Cheated Hearts" from the second album by the blusey, post-punk New York City art-rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, 2006’s Show Your Bones. There’s something pretty wild and cool about hearing The Cure’s Robert Smith and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O – two extremely idiosyncratic vocalists – clashing and melding on the same track. Stream “In Between Hearts,” and hear what I mean:
