Sympathy for the Mash-Up

Posted over 2 years ago
  • Artist:
Rolling Stones vs Queen vs Nirvana
  • Track:
    Sympathy for Teen Spirit
In the afternoon following the most recent Bootie jam-on at the DNA, I’m surfing through various fresh mash-ups when I come upon this deft and sneaky amalgamation of three all-time faves. As assembled by France’s insidious DJ Moule, we’ve got The Rolling Stones’ dark, deathless “Sympathy for the Devil,” Queen’s insistently funky “Another One Bites the Dust,” and Nirvana’s disaffected grunge anthem “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Unlikely? Not when you hear how it all hangs together...

  3. Lady Miss Ian says Did somebody say Mash Up? Lady Miss Ian can smell mash ups a mile away. Unfortunately, she doesn't know how to upload an MP3 in a comment or else she'd tag you back with: Urgent Signs -- Snoop Dog ft Justin Timberlake vs. Foreigner Maybe I'll post it for Mash Up Monday. ;-)

  4. Mike the Knife says I've been trickling out some choice mashes on a weekly basis (any ol' day I feel like it) for a few months now, LMI. Suss out the mechanics and post away!

  5. Zeroskilz says Not a bad mashup. I've heard some good and some bad. I think "this one":http://www.team9.net/mp3/team9%20-%20When%20you%20were%20a%20starlight.mp3 from Team9 is my fave so far. It's a mash of Muse's Starlight and When You Were Young by the Killers.

  6. gakker says Okay, I have to ask (and risk outing myself as a complete computer idiot when it comes to music)... How does one go about getting such clean vocals to do a mashup? Is there software that will strip it THAT well? Or did someone have a clean, vocal-only track of Sympathy for the Devil? All my life I've been mashing songs in my head...and I want to start doing it for real! I have a decent .mp3 studio to do it all in, i just can't strip out the parts to put together what I want! Who wants to help a Mog-brotha out???

  9. scotfree says Yep, superb. But, where's that guitar solo come from? Some live version? It didn't really sound like Brian May??

  11. Mike the Knife says Zeroskilz: Got that Muse-Killers mash and thought about dealing it out, but went with this instead. I've got about 25-30 hours' worth to choose from, so it's never easy. gakker: I think it's all about ProTools, but I'm not the person with the tech-know to answer your question. Good luck, though. Rawkkiddo: Thanks, buddy. Like I said, there are lot to sift through, and I try to bring out only the choicest cuts. mktackabery: Sorry to getcher motor running on a school night, but you can save it for later. And there are a few more in queue that may also do the trick. scotfree: Actually, that's Keith of the Stones on the solo, which was electronically plucked out of "Sympathy for the Devil" and inserted where necessary. ciphermedia: Will do. Keep checking in for more mashy fun...

  12. dermahrk says Very interesting. "Sympathy" is one of those Stones songs I never need to hear again, but this made it more palatable.
