On the off chance that anyone in the MOG-iverse has, over the past five days, missed seeing that outrageously funny, R-rated "Saturday Night Live" digi-vid that ran this past weekend, I'm gonna encourage you to scope it here and now.Guest-host Justin Timberlake performs a smooth-soul Christmas love ballad as a duet with newbie cast member Andy Samberg (of "Lazy Sunday" fame). In addition to being raunchy and high-larious, it's a deft parody of the lemme-sex-you-up goo purveyed by the likes of Jon B. and Color Me Badd.(Despite what you might think about Timberlake's music, he's aces at sketch comedy, and has been one of the best SNL guest hosts in recent years: great timing, fearless, no obvious cue-card reading, etc. It might have something to do with the pubescent years he spent doing routines on "The New Mickey Mouse Club," which would also explain why Christina Aguilera was so good when she hosted SNL.)The broadcast was censored, but here's the un-bleeped version for your amusement:

  1. Emily says nice. I keep forgetting to try watching SNL again. Have you seen the natalie portman digital short? sweeeet.

  2. Mike the Knife says Rappin' Nat? Yeah, that was kewl. SNL is, as usual, hit or miss. But the Timberlake and Alec Baldwin eps were superior this year, as good as it gets, and the new cast members - Samberg, Kristin Wiig, Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis - are infusing the show with fresh energy.

  3. Emily says best non-music digital short I've seen: doppelganger. I laughed about that for, like, days.

  4. CrashPryor says ...yeah, Pseudo Cyborg "*threw this video up*":http://mog.com/Pseudo_Cyborg/blog_post/33331 a few days ago,I was caugth off guard...I'm so used to SNL not being "Buckwheat has been shot- Jane, You ignorant slut" funny so I haven't watched it for a spell...A. Baldwin in those Canteen Boy skits...those dirty, dirty looks...classic guest-host material..

  5. Mike the Knife says The general consensus is that Baldwin and Timberlake could rotate hosting duties with Chris Walken, Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, and the show would be in great shape. It's like the cast and writers really get up for those guys, or those guys are simply better at sketch comedy than most other hosts.

  8. kat3260 says i caught this the other day...and have watched it 6 times now. Favorite part - “1 – Cut a hole in the box; 2 – put your junk in that box, 3 – make her open the box – that’s the way you do it” - I loved JT on SNL when he did the Omeletteville sketch and the Barry Gibb talkshow :o)

  10. SamTheButcher says Kat, they did Barry Gibb Talk Show again (I'd not seen it before) and it was pretty damn funny this time, too. And he did "Homelessville", sharing a streetcorner with a bell-ringing Santa. I didn't care much for the music (I'd've preferred "SexyBack", but it's more of a summertime jam), but the skits were spot on. The worst part about the vid that Mike posted is that for days you'll be singing "Dick in a box..." to yourself and laughing, and not really able to tell people what it's about. :)

  11. kat3260 says damn! I knew I should've TIVO'd that shite. I can hope that they'll replay or someone crafty will get it all on Youtube...I _really_ wanna see the Barry Gibb Talk Show recurrence. And I have had that end part where JT sings, "Well well well well" on repeat for about 24 hours straight..."DICK IN A BOX!" :O)

  13. IslandSummer says (In Chandler Bing voice): Oh. My. God. That is SO funny! I agree, JT is a riot when he hosts "SNL". As one of the Brothers Gibb, as Ashton Kutcher doing "Punk'd", or riffing 'Bring it on back to Omeletteville!', I never get tired of that episode in reruns. Thanks for the laughs.

  14. SamTheButcher says Kat, I think NBC has some of the Barry Gibb show on their site, but there's always YouTube. :)

  15. Spike says Sincerely, very funny performances you guys found. How exactly was the censored broadcast version of "Sexy in the Box different"?
    Permalink posted 12/25/2006
  16. Mike the Knife says The word "dick" was bleeped out, Spike. BTW, the actual title of the skit was "A Special Christmas Box."
    Permalink posted 12/25/2006
  17. Spike says Oh well. _Sometimes_ understatement can be funnier, though this was pretty funny, and the cutting and editing was pretty intense too.

  18. fairportfan says Indeed. Very well-made video; but it reminded me whu i have never been able to watch *SNL* - they set up the joke, i see what's coming, i luagh... and then they *DO* the joke. At length. To death. By the time they're done, it's not funny any more. And i wonder why it ever *was*. On a not-dissimilar theme, there's the Christmas panel from Brooke McEldowney's on-line comic *Pibgorn*. (Link below - it'll only be good till about January 7th or so.) Some set-up: *Pibgorn* (the redhead with wings) is a fairy. Literally, Normally about seven inches tall. A few Christmases ago she was out flying in cold weather, her wings iced up, and she would have died if Geoff (the guy in the panel) hadn't warmed her up in his coffee. What most people don't know is that, if they wish, fairies can become normal-human size, and some are Very Interested in human sexuality. (BTW, the green dappling on Pib is her actual skin, not clothes.) And Pib moves in with Geoff, more or less... which doesn't play well with Geoff's existing GF, *Drusilla*, who turns out to be an off-duty succubus... So, for Christmas this year, "*Pib puts a present under Geoff's tree*":http://www.comics.com/comics/pibgorn/archive/pibgorn-20061225.html.

  19. Spike says Even John Stewart uses bleeping language when he doesn't need to. I usually disagree with the rule that if it grates, it's great.
