WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

More Silver-Tongued Than Silverware?

Don't worry. I mean you no harm.

Recently, I was intrigued to read a couple of MOG posts explaining the sources (arcane or mundane) of the posters' respective screen names. So, jumping aboard…

My given name is Michael. Thus, Mike. As for the Knife? I fancy that it has a bit to do with a biting sense of humor, as in a propensity for cutting wordplay. But it's mostly about the cut: The DJ background, as in cutting from cut to cut on the turntables. As it happens, it's always been my DJ handle, willfully paying homage to Weill and Brecht's famous song from "The Threepenny Opera."

You know the song - and if you don't, push the red MOG Player button and listen to one of the quintessential versions of it by none other than Satchmo himself, king of New Orleans jazz, singer-trumpeter Louis Armstrong.

Hotcha!

And I toasted to your speedy recovery last night.....hope you are feeling better today...better then me...I shouldn't have toasted that much.

August: Louie da man! Every time I go to or past Rampart Street and Armstrong Park in NoLa, I have a Satch-moment.

Indy: Just a couple of insights into what makes a name a name...

annie: Thanks so much. Just hearing you did that makes me feel better! - even if you're still groggy. ;-)

Jeez, Kev. You just sent my cholesterol up about 100 points - and turned my stomach at the same time.

Callisto: They're all yours - if you can handle them...

Its kind of funny Mike, the McD's by my house has a player piano with that huge freaking moon sitting there playing away all day. I am surprised that no one has gone crazy working there yet

Cheers, Mike. Good to know this, and always good to hear that song!

Rawkkiddoh: Hmmm. That's somewhere between hysterical and toxic. And isn't the character a little out of date? Reminds me of riding past one of the oldest McDonald's on the planet (in L.A., naturally) which still has the company's original pre-Ronald mascot - Speedee, a little, running chef with a round, oversized head - emblazoned on the arches. Some might call it historical preservation; some might call it traditional. I call it weird.

Anna; The truth was out there, and even Mulder and Scully didn't know. Until now. And the hell with Speedee. That song is some real history.

It's a classic song...listen to Ruben Blades' "Pedro Navaja" - it has the same chord progression and pretty much the same subject-matter.
