WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

A Crash Still Heard

Posted about 1 year ago

This is just a quick note to thank the charming Erin a.k.a. goodmusiconly for reminding me of the late Chris "Crash" Pryor's birthday with a lovely tribute that you can find here: http://mog.com/goodmusiconly/blog/215691

It's been a year or so since his unexpected and unfathomable passing, which devastated a goodly portion of the MOG community. As longtime MOGgers know, Chris - a man of wit, grace, honesty, eloquence and broad-ranging tastes - was one of the true joys of the site, and his words and insights continue to resonate on his page at http://mog.com/CrashPryor. Any of you who haven't had the pleasure of his prose should check it out.

He was far too young and with so much more to offer. Accordingly, his death still stings. But I'm sure glad to have known the guy, learned from him, and enjoyed his company.

This oat soda's for you, Crash - and so's my favorite song by the English Beat, "Save It for Later," streaming into the ether and tickling your spirit...

AS Poe says, Micki is missed and I hope she's OK, with her beautiful son in tow. Crash was a blazing fire in the Mogoverse and is indeed missed. Thanks for yanking on our coat to remember him.

    Oatmeal: And amen.

poe: You're welcome, sister. Again, I wish there had never been a reason for such a reflection. And I, too, want nothing but the best for Micki and her boy.

Jonh: He was one of us - and one of a kind.

MrFrost: Crazy, no? Here's to better news coming up!

In reading Crash's posts, it looks like he thought something was afoot...

"...I just got in from that 3:10 to Yuma screening and will have to get right back up in a couple of hours in order get to the check in...I should be dead tired after riding around all day...but I'm not...I can't sleep because there's been a rush of adrenaline pumping through me ever since I almost lost my life, ironically, not that far from where I almost became a road burger back in March...but wait, I'm getting ahead of myself...

I've mused on here once or twice about how long was I going to keep "Forrest Gumpin' " my way around this town before I either 1, got my grind on 2, tucked tail and skipped town or 3, buy the farm in some freak accident that involves me, some strangers I met in Venice Beach, a llama, a bottle of Ouzo...and a John Deere woodchipper...these have been a wild and woolly couple of months for me but I've been keeping the lupine lot loping on the lateral by writing, reading and writing some more...But just because you don't see 'em doesn't mean that they're not out to get you....my mother is a staunch believer in signs from the beyond that we all should look for when trying to get on with our lives and although I've been known to say shite like "man, the last time that occurred "X" bad/ good thing happened to me"...if I apply my Vulcan powers of logic, I know that it's a sham...a futile attempt to take control of the steering wheel of fate which is akin to ice skating uphill...you'll get nowhere fast...still things like what I'm about to explain make me think twice..."

    ...etc...

Showed up too late to really get to know him, but will sorely miss writing like this...

Unfortunately I did not know Crash, but this is really heartwarming tome to see this type of community love for one of our former MOGgers.. Cheers to All, and thanks Mike!

I'm thinking of the wonderful picture Chris posted on M, of the two of you sharing oat sodas. Gulping harder and sending warm thoughts your way, and another cheer out to the cosmos for our Crash. Thanks, Michael ... xxx

I am: Had to reaffirm the props...

    gympumpkin: Was just feeling it.

extraordinarypoems: I trust that it was merited, too.

vannatta: What a masterful (and effortlessly funny) writer he was. Such a singular voice silenced. Maybe he did sense something, but truth be told, we're all a lightning strike away from oblivion.

    Anna: I know. I know.

Indiana: Indeed, and believe me, he earned and deserved the love he was given.

nicki: Ditto. Of course, with me, "many" means two.

contrabandwidth: He remains in my Trusteds, too. I keep hoping I'll get a MOG alert from beyond, but so far, nada.

    Lyrikhan: Sounds about right.

goodmusiconly: Wish you'd been there with us, Erin. I'll bet we'd have really torn it up.

RGM: The memories will probably flow back every October for a while. That's probably a good thing.

Cody B: The coolest, man. And you'd know, C.B.

Lizzie: Always happy to have you in the mix. I'm hangin' in here. And, yes, this particular setting is somber-toned, but, if you listen to "Save It for Later" while thinking of Chris, it's a little easier.
