New Bond Theme Leaked?

Posted almost 4 years ago

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the James Bond novels and the better films about the cruel yet sophisticated escapades of the man also known as British secret agent 007. If you are a fellow Bond-o-phile, I'm certain you're anticipating the November release of the next film in the series. This one will be the second to feature the superb Daniel Craig as Bond, and will continue his tale where it left off at the end of the previous installment "Casino Royale."

The upcoming movie is called "Quantum of Solace," after the title of a short-story written by Bond's creator, the late author Ian Fleming. There's been a lot of fuss about the theme song for "Quantum of Solace," especially after an abortive attempt by singer Amy Winehouse and producer Mark Ronson to record one. The latest news suggests that a duet by Alicia Keys and Jack White will officially replace the intended Amy and Mark collaboration.

As you might expect, I'm extremely fond of the Bond music composed by John Barry and enjoy many of the previous title songs performed by various renowned artists over the long history of the film franchise. So I was thrilled to discover that a fantastic theme was already completed for "Quantum of Solace" and is now available on YouTube.

Who needs Amy, Mark, Alicia and Jack?

Did you know McCartney had "first dibs" on the Title Track but could not for the life of him find anything to rhyme with “Solace”

McCartney seeks Winehouse for ‘Quantum of Solace’

Sir Paul McCartney wants Amy Winehouse to sing the theme tune for the new James Bond film, 'Quantum of Solace'.

The Beatles legend - who sang the title track for hit 1973 Bond film ‘Live and Let Die’ thinks troubled singer Amy has the perfect voice for a theme song, and offered some advice to her.

“I think Amy Winehouse would be really good, and I think she would do a really good job.

My advice to her would be not to try and rhyme Solace with anything - that’s too hard.”, he said.

This vid is labeled on youtube as a "Proposed Theme Song" which is good cause I like the music alot but not the vocals. From the looks of it there are several different 'supposed' theme songs, so there's hope they'll get a different vocalist for this.

Is this the one about Boris Yeltsin being the bad guy and how that thing on his head is going to take over the world.........either way I am so digging the track although Amy Winehouse's voice sounds a little rough. Maybe she should cut back on the smokes

That McCartney, what a tosser! I can think of several words to rhyme with solace. But if he thinks he's going to get some rhymes for free....

vannatta: I am so eager to see this thing. With French star Mathieu Amalric as the villain, two seriously beautiful actresses in Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton as love interests, and the significant supporting players from "Casino Royale" returning, it looks loaded.

ted: You're kidding, right? Doubtless, McCartney was compelled to chime in and extoll the virtues of a contemporary act like Amy.

August: Sorry for any confusion. The "proposed" themes are all jokes (like the one above - check the lyrics) or fan wank. I just thought this one was particularly "real" sounding, despite the amusing lyrics. Since Amy and Ronson bowed out, the actual theme is gonna be a duet by Alicia Keys and Jack White.

Rawkkiddoh: Exactly! Boris! And you are too right, Kevin. Amy better cut back on any and all smoking.

Jonh: I guess I'm just a little more generous: "Why would I waste a quantum of solace?/He ain't just an asshole - he is the whole ass."

    nicki: Yuck. But brilliant!

Neill: That Arnold thing is a blast. Not everything works, but I totally dig on the Propellerheads' version of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

Anna: Bwah-hah-hah! It's just the first step in my evil plan to take over the entire MOG-iverse - using Bond theme parodies!

Mike, as a fan, what do you think of Craig compared to other Bond characters? I'm no Bond expert, but the last movie was definitely a step up IMO.

Ben: AFAIC, Daniel Craig is the best James Bond, and closest to the character in the novels, since Sean Connery played 007 in the first three movies - "Dr. No," "From Russia With Love," and "Goldfinger." And this "Casino Royale" (as opposed to the spoof version from the '60s) is probably the best cinematic realization of Bond since "From Russia..." - even considering how they've updated/modernized the Cold War-era source material.
