Jacko Memorial Mashapalooza

Artist:McSleazy

Track:Smells Like Billie Jean
He was massively talented, clearly disturbed, and something of a freak. And whether or not you have issues with his life, life-style and controversial "interests," he definitely died too young. His fate aside, Michael Jackson - Motown munchkin-turned-multi-platinum recording artist, stadium-filling superstar entertainer, androgynous overage Peter Pan, and self-styled King of Pop - has long been a favorite of mash-up DJs/producers. For instance, over the past few years, top-cat mash-maker Mark Vidler whipped up multiple Michael mash-ups - four of which I'm streaming here, along with the mighty Nirvana/Jacko combo "Smells Like Billie Jean" from Glasgow, Scotland mixmaster McSleazy.

Nothing will change the tragic aspects of Jackson's life and death, but these mash-ups will certainly lighten the mood. "Smells Like Billie Jean" is a button-push away on the MOG Player at the top of the post. And Vidler's goodies (the various components, except the taste of Happy Mondays' U.K. acid-soul spin-off Black Grape, are obvious) can be heard on the old-school MOG Players below.
Was he the King of Pop? Oh, please. Did he make some killer music? Ya know it.

Thanks for making me smile Mike. I don't listen to mash-ups as much as you, but these were much better than coffee this morning.
greetings from Seattle. i know you're getting cut next week. watch out for those pain-killers.
I enjoyed this... No matter what we thought, in truth his music was killer...and will live on forever.
Take care Mike... and hope next week is good in spite of what you are dealing with!
Robin: Thanks for the supportive words! Needless to say, I'm trying to keep my mind on other things for as long as possible. And the frenzy around Jackson's death is a major distraction, especially since I've been living close to where he was holed up while he was rehearsing for his concert tour. So close that I saw the helicopter bearing his body fly past as it headed to the morgue yesterday evening.
Kori: I appreciate the sentiments. Regardless of the sitch, we must plow forward.
Holy shit! I ADORE 'Smells Like Billie Jean'! That is seriously an incredible mashup! Then again I love Nirvana. For some reason I'm unable to play the other ones so I'll be back later to feast on those gems. Thx Mike!
good stuff, Mike
Hope all goes well...
damn buttons wont play for me, going to have to think about how great the mash ups really are
Yikes! MOG bug ate my old MOG Player joints, but I have now fixed them. All apologies.
August: And now they're good-to-go. Enjoy!
inrumford: We gots more to dig. And I hope so, too. Danke!
Rawk: Dude! So sorry about the glitch. Trigger and relish. No thinking necessary.
Thanks Mike. Good post.
dmdm: You're welcome. Glad ya liked it. If this is a wake, I wanted to avoid getting too somber.
Thx for fixing Mike. Loved Black Grape back in the day so that's a given & the Beatles one is good too. But the Nirvana one pawns all!
August: I don't think enough people have been on the Black Grape tip, but their stuff still sounds hot. As it happens, I think that the M.J./Nirvana thing was the first official mash-up that I ever heard. Needless to say, blew me away.
I have both of Black Grape's albums. Always made me wanna dance. I always thought Sean Ryder was off his rocker but loved Happy Mondays too. Somehow he managed to produce some great tunes despite his drug-addled escapades!(I'm sure it was more the album producers & rest of the band that managed to pull it off though).
I was into Happy Mondays, too. Even with that idiot dancer Bez gyrating on stage like a hebephrenic with St. Vitus.
Bez, haha. how could one forget good ol' Bez?! He did add a certain, uh, flavor to the band, that's for sure. Now why they didn't get a beautiful woman up there to dance instead, we'll never know. Although I'd wager it was because they couldn't get any real women to do it so they settled for Bez!
Bez was the band's drug dealer
Alrighty then, that's cleared up, thanks slicenic!
Well, yeah. I thought that was common knowledge. For further hilarity re: Happy Mondays and the whole Madchester scene, check out the fab docu-comedy about Tony Wilson and Factory Records - "24 Hour Party People."
Love that film & own it, as well as love Michael Winterbottom's films. Saw it when it came out in the theater too & laughed so hard I think I probably obscured some of the dialogue & annoyed a few people!
Great stuff as always, Mike.
Bez is responsible for one of my favourite rock and roll quotes: "I didn't like Japan - it's full of Chinese people."
Jonh: That Bez...one of a kind - a go-go boy with little rhythm and less of a brain. He was one hilarious accessory though.
Btw, The Happy Mondays are touring w/The Psychedelic Furs opening. They will be in SF at The Regency Ballroom 9/17. I doubt I'll go though. I have no desire to pay money to see Sean & Bez make fools of themselves in person! I did see The Furs back in the mid '80s though & they put on a great show. They really should get top billing!
Smacks of a cash-grab, but loved both bands back in the day.
No doubt.
Nice to see a sober-headed MJ post for a change.
And of course my best wishes for a swiiiiiiiiiiiift recovery!
xxx
Anna: Thanks for the kind words. I'll be working on it. As for Jackson, he was as flawed as any of us or more so, and more talented than most.
