Tonight, the Big Odometer will click a digit higher, and we’ll all creep forward to our respective destinies. Meanwhile, there’s frolic and frivolity afoot across the globe. Me? I’ll be hanging with some pals on the block; then I’ll cruise over to a more elegant and freaky soiree (costumes encouraged!) in a slightly posher ‘hood for the midnight revels. Finally, it’s off to the Bootie New Year’s bash at the ever-reliable DNA where I can groove to mash-ups par excellence into the wee hours.In case you haven't noticed, it’s a complete treat for me to be MOGging amongst you all. Thanks for all the turn-ons and the smart, sharp and/or heartfelt writing. I expect to be staying the course into January and beyond, and I hope you do, too.As a parting gesture before the West Coast festivities begin in earnest, I’m streaming a little something from DJ Zebra, toast of the Paris club scene. It’s made of familiar ingredients, but mixed in an oh-so-fresh way: The Doors’ “Break on Through” and a live version of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with a bit of garnish. Zebra calls his bootleg cocktail “Break Through Love.” I call it a cool way to break on through to 2008.Bonne année, mes amis!
