WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Here Come the T’anks

Posted over 2 years ago
In a calendar oddity that happens every seven years or so, my birthday has fallen on Thanksgiving – our annual celebration of colonization and genocide. Just kidding. It’s our national holiday devoted to over-indulgence and sloth. Just kidding. It’s a chance for the citizens of America to express gratitude over the limitless bounty that we enjoy here in the greatest, most civilized and charitable country in the world. (Ha. I mean, yum!)It’s actually sort of fitting on my birthday to offer thanks for the freedom and opportunity that this land, from sea to shining sea, has given to me. I was born and raised by loving parents in a nation that let me grow up, succeed, and be myself in all of my idiosyncratic glory. As Larry David would say, that’s pret-ty, pret-ty good…Or, as Sly would put it:

  7. dharmachris says woo! Happy Birthday, Mike! And one of my fave holidays too. There is still comparatively little pressure to buy things for this holiday, other than good food and the beverage of your choice. Halloween used to be like that but now, sheesh, I gotta decorate for that too?? Enjoy!

  9. Mike the Knife says Thanks for the kind wishes, everybody. PIMP: You're as welcome as can be. August: As Ionesco said, we laugh so as not to cry. deedee: I'm unbuckling my belt and fading from tryptophan even as I write this. annieander: Really kicked back in Monterey for the feast and frolic - and yes, it was a diamond of a day. meko: You can be assured that I did! dharmachris: Strange, huh? I'd write more about it, but I have to take down the cardboard turkeys, pilgrims and Indians, and orange-and-brown bunting... soulrocket: You betcha on all three counts, man!

  16. Mike the Knife says Thank you, one and all. The trippin' on tryptophan is over (until the cold turkey sandwiches kick in). Still craving the elusive honey-glazed cranberry-pecan tart, but I'll survive.

  22. Mike the Knife says No worries, Erin. I'm just sorry you missed the party. All of my Trusted MOGs were together in an enormous mead hall with steins of Anderson Valley Winter Solstice ale, and we were drinking and toasting my health and longevity, and then, suddenly, a horrible monster busted through the front door and began slaughtering everyone, and ...no. Wait. That was a scene from that friggin' 3-D "Beowulf" cartoon. Sorry.
