Can't Stand Not Dancin'

Alors! The French invasion of San Francisco is slated to continue next Saturday when the inventive Parisian-based DJ/production team of Loo & Placido hits the DNA for the November edition of Bootie – the monthly mash-up dance party that gets my motor running whenever I have the pleasure. This gift from abroad comes on the heels of last month’s Bootie, which boasted outrageously exciting sets by two of France’s finest mash-up makers, the mighty DJ Zebra and his colleague DJ Moule. It was like the dance club equivalent of a delectable multi-course dinner prepared by the hottest chefs around at the most chic bistro in town.In the wake of that previous Bootie, I snapped up a fairly recent mash-up by Moule that I can’t stop playing - so I thought I’d inflict it on the MOG-iverse. As a rabid fan of the Velvet Underground, a recent convert to the cult of Brazil’s Cansei de Ser Sexy, a spiritual sibling of the Chemical Brothers, and a proud patron of the LCD Soundsystem, how could I not adore Moule's "Can't Stand Dance," and not dance every time I hear it? This one bounces from New York City to São Paulo to London via the City of Light. It’s my kind of globalization. Listen for yourself:

  8. Mike the Knife says annieander: Glad to hear that you're groovin' and all. And I appreciate the props, but I don't take part in the Wars due to time limitations and my pacifist nature. Plus, I'm from both coasts, so how could I tear myself apart like that? kat3260: Yes, it's insidiously catchy. Heh, heh, heh...

  9. emit says Oh, dear, this is sooo cool! Being something of a "rabid fan" of the VU myself, and suffering my recent addiction to LCD Soundsystem, this just hits all my soft spots. And, as Dylan said of the Byrds, "Hey! You can dance to it!" Heck, we should announce an annual mash-up week here on MOG, it would be so interesting...

  16. Mike the Knife says emit: FYI, every week is mash-up week in this particular corner of MOG-o-sphere! ZenPop: That's f'sure! And you're welcome. Neill: BIG-banging, although that's just my theory. Prawler: It is officially shaken... Anna: And stirred...in a gentlemanly fashion. glammerhammer: You bet. And I keep finding a reason to play it again, v. meko: Never said you did. Just makin' a point.

  22. tekla says Bootie rocks my world. Adrian who runs it, and was one of the first mash-up artists is one of a kind. Glad to see other Bootie fans here. I remember when it stared at the Stud it was only a few months before it had to move to a bigger location. BTW Adrian was doing her mash-ups last night at Trannyshack, and she had it going on.

  23. Mike the Knife says extraordinarypoems: As they say, sharing is caring... bloodtea: Damning with faint praise? ;-) tekla: Been hitting Bootie since back when they first got started. Then and now, the best club night in town.
