Another Dandy Mash
-
Artist:Rolling Stones vs Dandy Warhols
-
Track:Sympathy for the Warhols
The spirit needs lifting, and these days, nothing does it for me quite like a canny mash-up.I wouldn’t normally repeat myself in my self-appointed role as MOG's pre-eminent pimp of mash-ups, although they are, by their very nature, all about repeat visits to familiar strains of music in unfamiliar settings or combinations. With that in mind…Both musical components have (separately) been elements of previously posted mash-ups, but I’m going ahead and dropping this morsel on you, because Dutch producer/mixer/DJ Pheugoo had the brilliant idea of bringing these particular pieces together - and he did such a killer job. It makes sense, especially when you hear it: The instrumental track and back-up vocals of the Dandy Warhols’ “Bohemian Like You” provide a platform for Mick Jagger’s inimitable lead vocal from the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.”Even with their turn-of-the-21st-century Pacific Northwest origins, the Warhols owe plenty to the Stones’ raunchy, guitar-driven, British Invasion rock sound. And from the very top, when a couple of familiar Jagger interjections push the arrangement forward, the mash-up is as tight as one of Mick’s shiny ‘70s jump-suits.Have a little “Sympathy for the Warhols”…
