Stand Up Mash-Up

    Bootie Top 10
  • Track:
    Got To Stand It Up
Even on the heels of Mark Vidler’s departure from the mash-up scene (http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/114184), the cauldron of creativity continues to bubble. And why not, when there are stellar mixing and production talents like the inspired, charismatic Parisian, DJ Zebra, still at work?Zebra put on the hottest live set I’ve seen to date at the San Francisco edition of the monthly flyin’-off-the-wheels mash-up party Bootie. I’m ecstatic to say that he’s going to be back on stage at S.F.’s DNA Lounge for the coming Bootie bash on Saturday, October 13. And you can bet that he’s gonna drop his bangin’ combo of “Stand Up,” a brand-new track from post-punk Liverpool rockers The Dead 60’s, and “Got To Give It Up,” the classic dance groove from sweet-voiced soul legend Marvin Gaye: “Got To Stand It Up.”It floored me when I heard it. Give a listen – and, if you’re so inclined, you can grab it for yourself at http://bootiesf.com/, where it’s exclusively available, along with nine other goodies on the Bootie Top 10.Dig.

  3. Augusts1 says Got to Give It Up is my fave Marvin track of all time & this just ups the ante! Thanks for sharing this Mike, loving how the mix just adds some rock power to Marvin's already groovin song!

  4. Mike the Knife says soulrocket: Check out some of those other tracks on the Top 10, too. A couple more keepers, I believe. Girlcrawl: You're too kind, Girl. Too kind. Augusts1: It's my numero uno Marvin jam, too. (Although I'm also partial to "Wonderful One" and "It Takes Two.") And yessir, that is one potent intersection of tunes!

  5. fistula spume says OH that kind of mashup. I was hoping for stand up comedy mashups. You know like: Why did the chicken cross the road? Orange you glad I didn't say banana! Or maybe if you could have Lenny Bruce set up the punch lines but you could have George Carlin finish the punchlines. But seriously awesome tune Mike. That's a sweet mix.

  7. Rawkkiddoh says very nice Mike, and I am liking the fact it includes the band the Dead 60's. I like them quite a bit

  8. Mike the Knife says fistula spume: Ho-ho! You're killin' me, fist! (Glad you enjoyed...) Anna: Dug! Excellent! BTW, no reason NOT to do a Mediterranean mash. You could break new ground in the Ancient World. And I'd bring my hard-drive if I was ever drawn by the sirens to smash upon your rocks. Um, er, ah, you know what I mean... Rawkkiddo: Likin' the Dead 60’s myself. The latest album sounds purty damned cool on the first couple of listens.
