Cool Collaboration From Elvis C & Allen T

Posted over 3 years ago
If you think the opening track on the new Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint collaboration sounds familiar, it's probably because you heard a version of the song, Allen Toussaint's classic, "On Your Way Down," recorded in the '70s by Little Feat.Allen Toussaint as a young man.And that's testament to the strength of Toussaint's composition, which tells the tale of a social climber now down on her luck (Dylan explored the same theme in "Like A Rolling Stone," but Toussaint was there first). In the '60s and '70s Toussaint wrote and produced many great hits out of New Orleans. The ne version, on the much anticipated Toussaint/Costello collaboration, The River In Reverse, is quite wonderful, as is this entire album which includes remakes of many Toussaint originals, as well as new writing collaborations by the two men. Seek it out.

  1. Justin says Toussaint is a true musical legend. "Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley" - Robert Palmer , "Yes We Can" - The Pointer Sisters and of course, The Meters. It does not get much funkier then that, period.
