Eight years after the release of his debut album, Sean Lennon returns with Friendly Fire (Capitol), an album described as “a cinematic suite of songs” in a press release.
It's great to have you back, Sean! The new album will be released on September 26, and finds Lennon backed by Jon Brion (organ, guitar, drums), Harper Simon (guitar), Bijou Phillips (background vocals) and ex-Cibo Matto member Yuka Honda (piano, keyboards, bass). “There was a long period after the first album [Into The Sun] where I felt disillusioned with the machinery of the industry,” Lennon is quoted as saying in the record company release. “It’s not that I stopped recording, playing and performing, I did all of those things, just more discreetly. Friendly Fire is an experiment to see what it might be like to do music more publicly again.”In addition to Lennon’s originals, the album includes a cover of Marc Bolan’s “Would I Be The One.” The track listing:1. Dead Meat2. Wait for Me3. Parachute4. Friendly Fire5. Spectacle6. Tomorrow7. On Again, Off Again8. Headlights9. Would I Be the One10. Falling Out of LoveA “short film” (we call them videos) for each of the album’s ten tracks was directed by Michele Civetta; the cast includes Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Phillips, Asia Argento, Carrie Fisher, Devon Aoki, Jordana Brewster and others. According to the press release, these “fantastical shorts… comprise a conceptual film about betrayal and the failure of love.”The music that can be heard in the trailor is somewhat reminiscent of Sean's father John's solo work, and if the rest of the album has that vibe, than fans of both Sean and John Lennon will love Friendly Fire.Check out the trailer here:http://www.capitolrecords.net/seanlennon/
