My final Ozzfest
I'm going to Ozzfest at Alpine Valley Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin this weekend. I have been going for years with a group of friends from college, and this, unfortunately, will be our last hurrah. We typically get a hotel suite and start the party on Friday night so that we can get to the concert grounds as soon as we roll out of the bed/floor/couch/hotel hallway/ice machine room Saturday morning. It's always so much fun and we have such a blast listening to the great live music they (usually) offer. But, this year is different. I'm just not as pumped as I have been in the past. Ozzfest has become a complete clusterf**k of music with sub-par bands, and some bands that barely qualify as metal. We spent a crapload of money on the hotel room and pavilion seats in the hopes that the "mystery band" the organizers hyped would be Gwar, Anthrax, Metallica, Priest, Maiden, or something of the like. Imagine our dissapointment when f-ing Avenged Sevenfold was announced. Ugh. As a loyal fan of the "good old days" of metal, this announcement brought me much consternation. Not to mention the absolute blashemy that is Ozzy playing the SECOND stage as not to "steal the spotlight" of the shit bands. But, at any rate, the tickets have been purchased and there is no going back now. Off to Ozzfest I go.
