He has been called: the Literary Mystic. Sufi Sage. Dark Lord. The Most Pretentious Man On Earth. And it seems, he is content to sit in the background wearing an enigmatic smile and reflecting whichever image or persona that is projected upon him. At least, for a while.
Then the ruse is up and the amused glimmer in his eye transforms to artful guile and from out of nowhere he throws you a curve. He becomes director, performer and props master, changing the scenery, renaming the cast and tearing up the script. He will confuse you, frustrate you, humble you, and then take you out for coffee and write you a verse.
But you'll still be no closer to knowing Peter Murphy.
Artists, in many ways, write the memoir of humanity. They chronicle the triumphs and the failures, both personal and public and relate them as a catalogue of life and lessons learned.Peter Murphy is one of the rare storytellers who has been able to tell his tales in a manner which everyone is able to relate to.One of his abilities is to freeze a moment of time, capture a piece of living biography and hold that spark long enough to make it real. It is through his honesty and integrity which people relate to him, for he is one of us, simply trying to make sense of it all. Granted, maybe it seems like heÌs a few steps ahead, but he never leaves us entirely behind.
The Meridian welcomes Peter Murphy with Special Guest Ali Eskandarian and DJ Carmina on July 10th 2008 at 8pm
Tickets available at Ticketmaster or at The Meridian Box Office for $20
