WHERE E=MC HAMMER

(35)

I might have posted this piece before but earlier tonight I heard a story that made me decide to repost.........'cause this piece called "Lights Out" is for him. I didn't know until now......but it can only be for him.

"A last gesture of love, in the face of insanity/irrationality, was to build a cement seawall for his wife".

This breaks my heart.

Seawall-builder! May you rest in peace.

It's lovely, Henry ... and paired with the quote there is a tangible bittersweet feeling. What is the story behind the seawall builder?

The story belongs to a friend and fellow mogger. I'm waiting for her to share the story.

Can you possibly know how many times in the past half year (yeah!) you've helped me cry, Henry?

Thank you, my friend. You always seem to have the perfect song for everything.

Clip #2 is meant to be played while clip#1 is playing. I just keep playing it till the piece is over, myself.

Nothing can hold back the sea. Nothing can hold back time. Nothing should hold back our hearts.

This piece of land jutting out into the sea in clip#2....when we would leave the island as children, my grandparents would drive out there, and walk out to the point and wave as the ferry went by. It was quite a distance but we would always see them. This I know was my grandfather's idea.

"For at least the past 30 years they lived in the same house, right at the water's edge. I have fond memories of climbing over the rocks to get down to the beach behind their house.

She always was paranoid that some day the ocean would rise over those rocks and flood the house. When my grandfather's health started to deteriorate, she got extra crazy about this idea. So......my grandfather's last gesture of love, in the face of insanity/irrationality, was to build a cement seawall around the periphery.

To hold back the sea she is so scared will swallow her up.

It cost an insane amount of money, and was totally pointless...except as a testament to his love for her. He always wanted her to feel safe and secure. A losing battle, but one he never gave up on, because as he told my father many years ago... "if I left her, who would take care of her?" "

Oh, I am totally choked up now ... kristiana, the moment Henry said the story was from a fellow mogger I knew it had to be about your grampie. The story is beautifully bittersweet, and beautifully told ... A lovely testament to your grandfather. Hugs and love to you and your family! ~ E.

Yep, it's him. Is it any wonder I'm a storyteller?

Or that I studied psychology? Ha. Thankfully Henry is a great listener.

Thanks again.
