MOG MOG

WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Hi again.

I mogmailed some of you about this. Hope that was okay.

To those of you not knowing about this........here's a little info.

Fellow mogger LadyC and myself are working on a project called The Living Room Shows.

We're trying to help songwriters find an audience around the world. We're trying to bring songwriters and music-fans closer together. Create bonds that last for a long time and help both parts take charge of this business of music.

We wanna help keep songwriters on the road and help them make some money while they do what they love to do. We wanna help those music fans living in places lacking a good live scene. No place is small enough. Can you gather a nice crowd in your living room you can host a show.

I could go on and on about this.....but Connie (LadyC) made this document explaining everything you need to know.

I wanna thank those of you who've already offered to host shows........and I hope many more will join us.

First songwriter on the road is a good friend of mine from Sweden.

The idea of living room shows is not new to me. I was told that there were jazz concerts in living rooms in the city where I studied, but I sadly never came in contact with this "scene". I like the idea, though it sounds already nearly too fantastic and idealistic to be true. But I hope, it works. Just checking out your beloved songwriter ;).

You're right. It's not a new idea. Living-room shows are taking place all over the place as we speak but I haven't heard of a network of hosts which will help songwriters get a full tour instead of having to set this up on their own.

It is true......bacause I say it is. I am idealistic. I am not money hungry. I am not in this to get rich. I am in this because I wanna make a change and help spread good music.

Should the project end up failing I will be there to see it with my own eyes and not because I lose faith.

I use to work voluntarily for a small little festival named "Klangbad Festival" around the corner here, that also only works because of the idealism of its founders and helpers, so I highly respect this kind of idealistic musical work. I'll keep watching your project and maybe soon I'm gonna have enough money and a apartment that's big enough to be host of such a living room show. Time will tell. Just downloaded your referenced paper and I'll give you feedback this evening/night.

Thanks Hermes.

It's idealistic to a certain point. The artist needs to get paid and the hosts need to get paid as well. If this project grows LadyC and I will ask for a % of the ticket-money. But..............we will get the smallest amount of money. The artist is first in line........then the hosts and then us. Money needs to be a part of this in order for everyone to take it serious. The host should do this for free. They will have to work in order to get people to come. They will have to clean the house when everybody's gone home and they need to be compensated for their "bed & breakfast service" which means that will be offer a seat at the family-table and a bed to sleep in at night.

All you need to be part of this is a living room or a similar location for hosting a show like this.

Henry, you already know what I think of this idea. The fact that you're taking on the project AND not taking any $$ for it is inspiring (and kudos out to LadyC also!).

I would like to add, that even if any MOGGER out there doesn't have the space, if they know someone who has the space, that's almost as good. Pass the word. I'm letting my sister in the California wine country know and I'm sure she'd be up for the event.
