If you had a friend over...................

Posted almost 5 years ago
which song would you play?I was cleaning the dinner-table and this song came on. Made me think.........if I had a friend over tonight for beers......and you know how you always have one song they need to hear. I would not hesitate. I would play "Too Little Too Late" by Metric and turn it up!!! I love everything about this song. It makes me happy. It makes me want to dance......and it confirms that Emily Haines never lets me down.Your turn! Which song would you play???By the way. You know what's great about being danish? Me and my son just jumped around the living-room to the sound of "Knocked Up" by Kings of Leon and he's still 7 years from knowing the words to that song.

  1. amber says Which song??? Depends on the friend and their woeful lack of music knowledge. I'm turning most of my friends onto The National and (coincedently) Kings of Leon right now. And BTW...we Americans jump around the living room like idiots with our kidlets too. But I'm sure you gave it a special Danish flair we couldn't touch here!!

  2. Me and the Horse I Rode In On says I know Amber...........my point was that this was a song about a pregnant girl running away with her man and so far my son might not understand pregnant but he has no idea that running away from home is a possibility. I am not claiming that we danes beat americans in the art of living-room-dancing. Brainy by The National would be another song to play. No question. New Interpol........yes. Many songs........and probably a different one tomorrow.

  3. amber says When I was in high-school, my fast food boss had a first grade daughter who sang Madonna's Like a Virgin at her school's variety show. He couldn't talk her out of it for anything. So I missed the point at first but I get it now.... ...and probably a different one tomorrow....OH YEAH. That's why I love music and having music entralled friends. Around every corner, another love to fall for... cheers, Henry--have a good weekend and here's to the art of living room dancing.

  4. Rawkkiddoh says all depends on the situation henry. If it were for drinks, I feel the Pogues would get some air time tonight

  5. Dale says If I were having friends over, and they weren't MOG friends, I think I'd just be happy to have friends over, and not worry about foisting my music on them first go. Maybe on the third visit, I might slip this song in:

  6. Mike the Knife says I've been pimpin' Howling Bells these days, so it would probably be "Setting Sun." It also depends on the time of day. For instance, if it was late, I'd play Imogen Heap's "Goodnight and Go."

  7. Soulfunksticat says I'd pop in The Meters "People Say" no matter who was over. I think anybody could get into that, at least anybody that would hang with me for 5:14. If they couldn't stay that long, I'd try to squeeze in the single version which gets the job done in just over 3 minutes.

  8. mktackabery says Henry ::: that is my favorite song off that album, how did you know? Dale ::: heck yeah! I so love that Editors record, but that would not be it because my husband doesn't get it . . . yet. I'm working on him. Right now, it would definitely be this one:

  9. chucky says While it would completely depend on the friends and the mood of the evening I've found myself having this fantasy a few times lately where I throw a dinner party at my house and I have Ray LaMontagne on in the background. This is because I recognize his talent but can't just listen to him, he needs to be in the background so I created a fantasy background for him. (That sounds weird doesn't it? Hmm.)

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says Chances are - it would be one of two friends who love music & for whom we do this on a regular basis... so on that reasoning I have to go with one slow & one more uptempo... gonna say +If You Want Me+: Marketa Irglova from the Once soundtrack (slow & sadly beautiful to steal a phrase from the Replacements) & +People Person+: Donnie (thanks to Cody B for hooking me into this lovely UK R&B gent !!!) But Dale makes a truly brilliant point that my girl Michelle seconds & I will third... The Editors would definitely be an entire album I'd rock for the both of them !!!

  13. Dale says What can I say, it passed the Melissa test. She didn't run screaming when I had it on in the car, while we went shopping together. Thanks for the backup, Michelle and Lizzie.

  14. Mike the Knife says Now that I think about it, a month ago, I would've played something off the "Once" soundtrack - or Wilco's "Impossible Germany." No lie.

  15. TroyPowers says Completely not related to this post, but I just met a Danish girl. We hung out the other night, and she was telling me all about Safri Duo (who I didn't know were Danish). Since "Played Alive" was so huge in Germany, I just assumed they were German. Unfortunately, my new Danish friend will soon be returning to Dania...errr...Daneland...err...The Danish Empire...or...wherever Danes come from. :) Yes, apparently Danes are apt to jump around quite animatedly. :)
