I survived Popkomm and will now tell you about it

Four really nice days in Berlin. It was my first visit and I must say. I am 100% in love with that city. I could live there. I was attending Popkomm........the festival where people try to sell what they hope to become the next big thing. I was suprised to see so much shit. Of course there were some great smaller labels.......one if them was Tapete from Germany. I'll write more about them later. What I do not understand is why every country choose to present crap when many of those countries have great music. I shook my head many times.Hyman was there. I looked for him but never found him. I made sure to wear my MOG-shirt but nobody thanked me for it. No fellow moggers.........I was hoping for that.As soon as nighttime kicks in every club and venue in the eastern part of Berlin starts rocking. Great bands all over the place and such a great atmosphere. People were all very friendly and in search of a good time.I had my eyes on the City Slang night from day one. Malajube were really good. So were Caribou. Menomena were great. I cannot explain why I left before Stars went on stage. I had my reasons but I will never forgive myself.The show that blew me away took place at a small venue. I assume 50 people were there. Die Mannequin took the stage and I got everything I wanted. Trio from Canada. Female guitarist/lead vocalist who is complete insane. I could write more.........but here's a video instead.

Bartleby says Berlin is one of the cities I want to visit. I've been reading so many books and seen so many films in which she's the heroine... You lucky b*stard. Thanks for bringing back some Berlin to share with us. Die Mannequin is another name I'll add to my "MOGged" artists to check. Tak ;)

Zeroskilz says I've heard of this band, but I've never heard anything by them. Pretty impressive. Reminds me a bit of the band Trucks that Anne is always talking about. You should check them out. Never been to Berlin, but I hear it's beautiful. Sounds like a cool trip.

Me and the Horse I Rode In On says Kris: She scared me.........that's for sure. Yes.......no Stars for me. I have no excuse. I don't know what happened. I was told that the show was great. Anna: Hard to say. Definitely insane. Really cool. In greek terms? Probably just a regular girl.

Lady Miss Ian says Glad you survived and enjoyed the PopKomm madness - and lived to tell the tale. Sounds like a large chunk of it is still music industry swill, but the club shows made up for them. What? No comments on the MOG shirt. Shameful. I think MOG needs an outreach coordinator in Berlin. Who'll volunteer??
