Saw Shadows Fall at the Nokia last night. Great band. I know "metalcore" is more or less reviled among any metal fans with taste (and rightly so), but these days SF are more reminiscent of vintage Metallica/Slayer/Anthrax to me. Not that they're rip off artists or a rehash/nostalgia act, more like an in-the-same-spirit update on that sound. All the best elements of vintage thrash are there- breakneck speed, aggression and melody in the lyrics, melodic guitar leads, monstrous soloing and SICK double-bass action. Gotta love the penchant for Metallica-esque guitar intros as well. Best of all, they really pull it off live as well.Will be interesting to see what the next step in their evolution will be, especially now that they're signed to Atlantic.
