1. What's your favorite band?
If the real question is "who is your favorite musical artist," then the answer is Bruce Springsteen. If they really insist on a band, it would either be The Velvet Underground or Sleater-Kinney.
2. Do you play an instrument?
I played bass in a garage band as a youth.
3. Sing?
I can carry a tune. I wouldn't consider that noteworthy, but the one time I went to karaoke with friends, I found that I was in the minority.
4. Write lyrics?
I wrote two songs, music and lyrics to one, just lyrics for the other. The latter was when a musician friend asked me for some verse that he could put to music ... I wrote something about being passive in the face of lost romance or something like that ... it was called "Nothing I Could Do." The other was called "Cheese Blues," and the entire lyrics were "I'm goin' downtown, babe, buy me a hunka cheese. Yes, I'm goin' downtown, babe, buy me a hunka cheese. 'Cause my baby's waitin' back home, and you know she's hard to please." (The music was basic Jimmy Reed.)
5. Have you ever slept with a drummer?
No, but my wife has.
6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended?
It's probably most accurate to take a Darkness Tour Springsteen show ... Berkeley in the summer of '78 might win over the Winterland shows. But for coolness, I'll say Prince at a tiny club in SF called The Stone when he was touring behind Dirty Mind.
7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time?
Define "skilled." No one's really caught up with Hendrix, in my book.
8. Name a song that just makes you want to break shit.
Lotsa punk stuff from the late 70s. "Safe European Home" usually gets me going.
9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses.
I thought this was about our personal stuff, not trivia.
10. What's the best lyric ever written?
A Wop Bop-a-Loo Bop, a Wop Bam Boom!
11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who?
Elvis, '68 TV Special, sitting around with the boys.
12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be?
Singing.
13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone?
I wouldn't do it.
14. What song do you have playing right now?
Thunderclap Newman, "Something in the Air."
15. Greatest album in the history of time?
I can't decide between Born to Run, Astral Weeks, and whatever version of the Elvis '68 Special in the Round with His Pals I dig up.
16. Is Elvis still The King?
Yes.
17. What's your favourite musical?
Mean Streets.
18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind?
Chuck Berry.
19. Ever wanted to be a DJ?
Sure.
20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be?
If I could pick my wife, I would, but she's not a famous musician. If I found out that Christina Hendricks played an instrument, she'd be next. Joni Mitchell might be nice, if only because she'd immortalize me in song soon afterwards. Is Claudia Lennear too obscure? If she is, I'll vote for Cyndi Lauper because we were born on the same day, so she'd forgive my aging body.

My Trusted MOGs
Okay, I'm game.
1. Depends on the day, but probably the Attractions, with or without that guy in the glasses...
2. Guitar and bass, and four or five piano chords.
3. Passably.
4. Used to, prolifically. Would claim authorship of none of them now....
5. I used to share an apartment with the drummer in my college band, but we had different bedrooms. I'm a little more into women who play bass....
6. King Sunny Ade and His African Beats in NYC in the early Eighties, outdoors on a perfect June night. They levitated.....
7. Not an axe-god kinda guy, but if I were it would probably be John McLaughlin.
8. "Sometimes When We Touch," by Dan Hill. But for a different reason than yours.
9. I'm with you. In what way is this revealing?
10. Well, my favorite line - today, anyway - is from "Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat": "I saw you making love with him, you forgot to close the garage door...."
11. Any Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band concert that ever happened.
12. Drums.
13. Cool jazz.
14. "Disco Azucar," Los Van Van.
15. The Legendary Joao Gilberto.
16. There is no king, but he is one of the gods.
17. Guys and Dolls.

My Trusted MOGs
1. What's your favorite band?
Robert and Roland, The Brothers Cazimero.
2. Do you play an instrument?
If pressed, a guitar or Ukulele.
3. Sing?
Aside from "Hawai'i Aloha," "Speedball Tucker," or "Home in the Islands," that frog you hear softly croaking must be me.
4. Write lyrics?
Nothing I can think of, though a Mad magazine-type parody may exist in a forgotten notebook somewhere.
5. Have you ever slept with a drummer?
Nope. I prefer to associate with my species.
6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended?
Any of the New Year or Summer Diamond Head Crater Celebrations of the late 1960's-early 1970's.
7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time?
Easy. Andres Segovia.
8. Name a song that just makes you want to break shit.
The phrase is unfamiliar. However, I'd guess Mason Williams' "Manha de Carnaval" is enough reason.
9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses.
That question is too morbid to answer, even for me.
10. What's the best lyric ever written?
"Oh beautiful, for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain..."
11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who?
Richie Havens at Woodstock (#1) singing "Freedom," of course.

"Man of La Mancha"
18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind?
The Who
19. Ever wanted to be a DJ?
If you mean radio, I was one briefly in college. If you mean a disk-spinner-for hire, my repertoire is far too ancient for any but Classic Rock venues.
20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be?
Sharing a sleeping berth with Ella Fitzgerald would be very interesting.
My Trusted MOGs
1. What's your favorite band?
i'm with you, do they mean artist or an actual band - for band i would say Clutch, i can get around not saying The Weary Boys because they broke up. picking an artist is way too hard - most of the people from my Mog page would be in contention

drums - somewhat

not well, but i like to in the car, with the windows down
4. Write lyrics?
i think about them, but never write any
5. Have you ever slept with a drummer?
no
6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended?
probably The Weary Boys at the Continental Club, in Austin. it was a release for their "Holy Ghost Power" album and it was amazing - about the only other time when i can remember so many people having such a great time at a show, or anywhere else, was the only other time i saw them play. there are a lot of others in contention, though
7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time?
i'm not sure i'm qualified, but with apologies to Jimi, Stevie Ray, Segovia (good choice Wahiawa) i'll go with Junior Brown - i don't know anyone else who can rock the guit-steel
8. Name a song that just makes you want to break shit.
just one... ? for me, this could go one of two ways, songs that i actually like that get the blood flowing (Clutch and Pantera have quite a few) and stuff that i don't like that makes me want to break whatever it's coming out of (even more in this category)
9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses.
i'll pass too
10. What's the best lyric ever written?
"numbers is hard to feel and ain't never had feelings, but you push too hard, even numbers got limits, why did one straw break the camel's back, here's the secret, it's the million other straws underneath it" - from Mathematics by Mos Def
11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who?
oh man... so many good choices - thinking back to Beethoven, Handel, Schubert - one of the all time performing and/or conducting a premier of one of their classic pieces would be pretty incredible. seeing Johnny Cash somewhere - i'm a huge fan of his Folsom performance, but i don't think i would have wanted to have had a "front row seat" if you know what i mean.
12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be?
piano (or maybe guitar)
13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone?

sure - a jungle dj
20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be?
