MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

The Wire is the best hip-hop show on television today. Well, that's silly, it's the best show period on television today. But MOG is about music, so I'll just mention the hip-hop here. David Simon speaks about the show's music here.

Haven't seen The Wire yet, as unlikely as that may sound. No cable or satellite. I'll check the dvds at my local library. But, hey, Masoo, you've earned a place on my trusted mog list -- anyone who recommends Nick Lowe's masterpiece, "Pure Pop for Now People," has earned my respect. I still have my "Nick Lowe, Jesus of Cool" promo necktie from back in the day. I haven't mp3'd my vinyl PPFNP yet, but I'd better do it soon and start playing it on my live365.com station. Welcome to the Mogiverse, dude.

Masoo says:

Well, it's funny, because outside of the theme song, and one closing montage at the end of each season, there is an almost complete absence of music on the soundtrack of The Wire. The music you hear comes from car radios and boom boxes and the like. The street characters, though, are very hip-hop.
