Wow, incredible energy. There's a bit of French at the end of the clip. The speaker said something: "With the accident he had, he still managed to heat up... [I'm guessing the audience]"

Last time I heard them they had Goldie's son doing a wicked rap to one of their songs. The combination of these two genres created a great blend of musical harmony. Some wonderful talent with great stage presence.

McLaren was a big Gene Vincent fan. When he made me talk to him before interviewing the band back in 76, he singled out Gene and Little Richard as being what rock and roll is all about. John possinbly would have seen Gene in 'The Girl Can't Help It', which was on TV a number of times around 73 - 76, usually on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It also played at cinema revival houses, a popular hangout for a lot of the "older" people hanging around the group.

Bowie stole that stance as well, via Vince Taylor, who was a British-based Vincent wannabe. Taylor did the original 'Brand New Cadillac' as so ably hot-rodded by The Clash. Which they found from their manager Bernie Rhodes, who was a friend and fashion partner with McLaren. It's a small world.

Fascinating. I've only seen Gene lip-synch this song from "The Girl..." so it's nice to see a live performance. It looks like it's from the mid-sixties and the Blue Caps are long gone, based on the Beatle-cuts worn by these band members.

That would most likely be a French pick-up band. or maybe one from Britain, accompanying him for a whole tour. American stars always used British bands to back them when they visited. (Possibly a musicians union rule of the time.) Jerry Lee, Eddie Cochran, Gene V, Chuck Berry - all used them.
