1. The Cult, "Wild Flower." We're getting to the point on the timeline when I start having little to say. I mean, I can barely remember The Cult, and I thought I didn't remember this song until I played it and realized I knew the riff.
2. Buster Poindexter, "Hot Hot Hot." It sure did take David Johansen a long time to get this popular.
3. Rosanne Cash, "Tennessee Flat Top Box." Singing one of her daddy's songs.
4. Bruce Springsteen, "Brilliant Disguise." Apparently, there are some people out there who hate this video. They're full of [insert word for feces].
5. Michael Jackson, "Smooth Criminal." I like the Alien Ant Farm version, too.
6. Prince, "If I Was Your Girlfriend." Watch the video quick, because you know Prince will have it removed.
7. Hüsker Dü, "Celebrated Summer." I know, this wasn't a 1987 song, but the live album had a 1987 version on it.
8. George Michael, "Faith." What a good album. Whatever happened to this guy?
9. Guns n' Roses, "Sweet Child o' Mine." I never liked this band, because I can't stand to listen to Axl's voice.
10. Eric B. & Rakim, "Eric B. for President." Guess we'll have to settle for Obama.

87 seems like a pretty diverse summer - but it just might have been one of those times I began to become "aware". I was entering 6th grade and I remember confusing Gn'R and Midnight Oil, for some reason (I think a similar "oh, oh oh," in the choruses or something). From the catchiness of George Michaels "Faith" to Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" to me discovering my future idols Guns N' Roses, your post brings back good memories. I don't know if I can pick out a summer like this (say maybe 1989 when Faith No More released "Epic") that I was so moved by music.
Interesting ... I hadn't thought of this as a summer list, and now I want to wallow in memories of my own not-so-celebrated summer of '87,
Perspective is everything, huh? Obviously a 12 year old's view of 87 is much different than someone else's.
That groove Prince is digging is just sooo summerish. Makes me think of LA at dusk, with palm trees against the velvet sky and the warm air coming through the car window. Good thing I got to YT before he did!
Video or no, "Brilliant Disguise" is one of my top 10 Springsteen songs. There are a few others on this random list that I covet, but I'll just stick with the Boss for now.
