Actually, I can stand the rain, and I love this song.

Old School C posted a fantastic version of "I Can't Stand the Rain" by Ann Peebles, which instantly started Cassandra Wilson's version playing in my head. She's accompanied solely by the National steel guitar of the late Chris Whitley. The combination of Wilson's almost mournful phrasing and that sound of Whitley's National guitar played with a slide gives this version a nearly haunting quality.

    Old School C says WOAH!! I sure would love to see this performed live. I love this version! Its got a more blues feel to it while Ann's is more soulful. Both versions are classics in my book!! Thanks for bringing this one to my attention.

    extraordinarypoems says Great sound. My Jamaican friend was just telling me about this performer a few weeks ago --- said I needed to hear her. Wow. He's right. My friend, by the way, is jazz guitarist Maurice Gordon. Check him out at myspace.com/mauricegordon. He is also featured in this video. He is working with our college students to produce and perform dub poetry.
