I'm thinking of getting my first tattoo... its sort of something associated with a particular band but is also pretty generic (and no, it is not a heartagram - I have considered it though) and I know the place I want to have it too... on my right side over my ribs. I'm trying to figure out when I know it will be the right time or will I just never know? Will I get sick of it? Is it gonna look horrible if I get fat or saggy? There is way too much to think about!

Zeroskilz says I got my tattoo about 15 years ago. I had three rules that I followed when determining what the tattoo should be and where I should get it. 1) No words or pop art. Words over the years can lose meaning or change interpretations. It also saves the trouble of having to get an ex-lover's name covered/removed. Pop art (at the time the Taz Devil was very popular) will quickly fade into fad over the lifetime of the tattoo. 2) Get the tattoo somewhere where you do not have to look at it every day. I chose left shoulder blade. Even after 15 years, I still catch glimpses of it at times and am marvelled by it. It still seems new to me even though it has faded with time. The ribcage might work too. 3) Know what you want before you go in. My two roomates had no idea what they wanted before going in. They picked their tattoos out of a book at the shop and started hating them the following day. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck.

capitalist pig says I get the impression that you live in Sydney, but I could be wrong. If you do though, there is only one place to go for a tattoo, and that's the place on Crown St, Surry Hills. I forget the name but it is in a big green terrace between Albion St and Oxford St. And if you go there ask for the chick to do it - she's a world-champion, she does the best lines I've ever seen. Think hard about it though. I've got four, five if you include one that I had covered up. Of those I like only two of them, the others I loath in the same way that I loath well-done steak. I mean why do that to a stake?

Marta says I indeed live in Sydney... I have had that place recommended to me before - its Inner Vision Tattoo I believe. I'm doing my research well before I get it done and my friend, Noni, is well rehearsed and will be taking me when I'm sure. What are your tatts of (especially the ones you don't like)?
