BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE PRESENTS KEVIN DREW, "SPIRIT IF..." out September 18

Kevin Drew's "Spirit If..." was recorded over the last two years at Ohad Benchetrit's house in between social scene tours and day-to-day life. It was produced by Ohad Benchetrit, Kevin Drew, and Charles Spearin.

This is the first in the BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE PRESENTS series. Brendan Canning and company are currently recording the second in Toronto. It will be released early next year.

Drew and Canning, the two co-founders of Broken Social Scene decided to approach making records as solo projects. In the process the social scene community took part and played key supporting roles, thus giving birth to this series.

Along with the BSS crew, Drew has invited many other guests to perform on "Spirit If...".

The record unfolds like a emotional comic book. It's Drew's song-writing and all his favourite topics are addressed: fucking, fighting, fearing and hope. FFFH.

This fall Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, along with new members will commence the "BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE PERFORMS" touring series. They will tour select songs from this album and a others from this series.

Release date: Sept. 18, 2007

Hoping it's as good in its own way as the Feist album.

Michael, It is a tall order to upstage the new Feist record but it will be interesting to see. Broken Social Scene is one of my favorite bands so I have high hopes. I am glad to see they are using this more flexible lineup now under the "Broken Social Scene Presents" moniker.

You Forget It In People was on that took me by surprise. Then Broken Social Scene is an album that splits the artistic and listenable line right down the middle. Those are the albums that are timeless in my eyes. BSS have done the unthinkable. Kudos and I can't wait for the next.

FFFH, reminds me of Say Anything's song "The Futile" which goes "Eat sleep fuck and flee, in four words that's me." Er, not speaking for myself here.

I love this song. It's such a fantastic idea to have the Spirit If mixes. I got to write about this for Spacelab when press releases came out, it was pretty exciting.

I am super excited about this release. I love this collective of musicians. The musicians that are BSS are some of the most incredible musicians. Think of all the great music coming from all these people on their individual releases. It is insance the quality of music accross the board. Truely overwelming.

Nice. AoH was not immediate for me. Andrew's song writing is very unique and has a very nice "world" feel to it. You can just tell that guys music tastes are all over the map. Glad you liked. Both discs are great but his first one Folkloric Feel has got some beauty to behold on it. Catch him in concert if you can...the man is a rockstar. He has the look and the vibe onstage that many performers/musicians etc only wish they had. He is the full package for sure.

If you like any Wilcoesqe stuff...check out Jason Collett's record Idols of Excile...that record is perfect. (IMO) One of my favorite records of the past couple years.

Stars. Great emotional pop music with a lot of male/female dualing vocals. Amy Millan's voice is a perfect female voice for me. Her vocals on the stars records are absolutly haunting and can shake me to the core. She could sing about a container of salted mixed nuts and I would be moved.

yeah...the collective really adds to the greatness of BSS. All these musicians working together yet putting out other material on their own that is just as great. damn!

...lol. I did not mean to go off like that. whew. back to work now...
