This one is for you Girlcrawl...

I was doing a little research on The Mabuses. While on Amazon, I was looking at the "People who bought...." area and noticed that a lot of people that bought The Mabuses bought the Lilys, a band that I am very familiar with. I thought about it for a second and it really is a great suggestion for someome who likes The Mabuses. Thanks to Girlcrawl who just tipped me off on The Mabuses( http://mog.com/Girlcrawl/blog_post/99632 ) Here are a few tracks from Lilys' 1996 release "Better Can't Make Your Life Better". Lilys is primary songwriter Kurt Heasley. He covers quite a bit of territory in his releases. Everything from laid back shoegaze, to great pop hooks to an ill fated trip into electropop weirdness.

  6. Girlcrawl says Merci, and well-done! Have been away from MOG about 24 hours, so imagine my surprised delight when I saw your post notification - incredibly generous and thoughtful of you...first time someone has dedicated the Girl a post :-). Went straight on-line and purchased a copy of 'Better Can't Make Your Life Better' as these guys (or Kurt Heasley and cohorts) are kickin'! Had not heard of The Lily's before now, and really enjoyed their sound - love the cool melodies, brilliant guitars (definitely some power chords), and at times muffled vocals. These are psyche-pop gems...one reviewer eloquently summed up the album's vibe as "a postmodern mix of 60s psychadelia with 90s math/prog rock" - I think that is extremely well-put. Thanks again both for the new discovery as well as the fantastic post and mention - you Rawk Marigold!

  7. Lady Miss Ian says Love the Lilys! Good call MG. I got to know them on this disc: I'll have to seek out "Better."

  8. Girlcrawl says Looked at 'Precollection' Lady Miss Ian, and almost ordered it - think I'll return and pick it up too; thanks! Marigold - intended to comment on how differently the songs above sounded from one another - all are great tunes, and especially enjoyed Elevator Is Temporary and Pan en el Hagor. Cheers!

  9. Marigold says LMI, Precollection is a good one for sure. I pretty much enjoy all of Lilys music minus the goofy electronic cd (zero population growth). Yeah, check out "Better" and also "The 3-Way" if you are digging "Better's" vibe. Girlcrawl, It was my pleasure for the dedication. It was the least I could do after The Mabuses post and all of the generosity you thru my way. Can't thank you enough. So, here is another track for you. The first one is off of The 3-Way. The second track is a slightly more rare and older track off of their "A Brief History of Amazing Let Downs" ep. ~awgpcMJkMMA.mp3~ ~H3qGsHzUFLu.mp3~
