When I did a search on MOG for This Will Destroy You, I discovered that their new self-titled release has not been mentioned here yet. How could this be? This record came out back in March! I was blown away. Why in the crap is nobody talking about these guys? Is it only because they may have a similar sound to some bands we all know and love already? Could this be a band on the last coattails of a genre in indie rock? I think not, I believe them to be the real deal. I have been aware of This Will Destroy You for a while now. I discovered them while in a search of something similar to Explosions in the Sky. Young Mountain (TWDY's first release) seemed like something that could tide me over for my post rock instrumental band addiction blues. I kept meaning to buy Young Mountain but never got around to it. Last spring Explosions in the Sky released "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" and that tided me over until I heard about TWDY coming out with a new release around the time I bought my record player. I could not pass up on the special edition LP. It was a no-brainer to go ahead and pre-order it back in December 2007 for a March 2008 release. It has not disappointed. The comparisons to Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai are un-deniable. But the ability TWDY have to rock just as hard as the mentioned bands is a true compliment to them. Ten gallon hats off to the second Texas foursome that can kill you softly. http://www.myspace.com/thiswilldestroyyou

I've been a big fan of these guys for a while now, too. Just never thought of posting on them. That blue vinyl is looking pretty sweet, too. There's quite a few of these EITS-esque bands out there that rock pretty hard. Have you heard Masarati or The Mercury Program? Those guys are worth checking out. This Will Destroy You is definitely the best of the rest, IMO.

I've been trying to respond all day but my mind was melted to the floor on first listen. I am just now starting to put the whole mess back into my head.

Chuck. Thanks for the name drops of other bands. I will be sure to check them out as I have not heard of them till you mentioned them.
Two other bands I would suggest are Unwed Sailor and Saxon Shore.

I'm destroyed, crushed, pulverised, annihilated and utterly converted to your cult of the blue vinyl, Mike. Take me in, I want to be part of that motley pack on the cover. I don't even need to be a cool animal, it's all right if I'm a skunk as long as I can ride with them TWDY.
Their orchestral rock just shake up my foundations while restoring my unhealed wounds to another state unknown heretofore. I particularly enjoyed the last track which had a Sibeliusian feel to it. Like those northern shores glimmering in the invisible horizon.
Thanks ever so much for the introduction.

I really do not know to how to respond. I wonder what happens to the people that are not destroyed that have listened to TWDY. Do you ever wonder if they spontaneously com-bust into flames?
