I got rid of my Ass and got a New Buffalo for $4.99

Posted about 1 year ago
3:31 (track length)Several months ago I was just minding my own business strolling thru the used bin of one of my local used cd/book stores. I stumbled upon a sealed copy of New Buffalo’s first release Last Beautiful Day. It was 4.99 and on Arts and Crafts so I figured I would roll the dice ole school and buy something I had heard of but never heard any music from. Wow did I score. It took about 5 spins for me to totally get used to the sound but I must admit I am smitten. Links:http://www.newbuffalo.net/http://www.myspace.com/newbuffalomusic

  2. Augusts1 says I'm diggin this already. The music reminds me kind of like Tom Waits. Loving her voice too, which reminds me of Feist sorta. Not heard of them at all. 2nd song isn't working here either! I'd like to know how you got rid of your ass Mike?

  4. Marigold says August. I am pissed that my songs in the comments are not working. You have to check the second song out if you like the first one. Take the myspace link and it is the first song on her player. The song is incredible. Chuck and August. The ass reference is to a post from Ilay. (poebegone) She had given me one for Christmas. It is a inside joke reference. Actually, I think she already took my ass away from me anyways. I do have three wishes to use up though still. hmmm.

  7. FluxCapacitor says I like that you gave it 5 listens. When I put time and effort into sourcing music, I tend to put more time and effort into listening to it. It can be very rewarding, as in your case, or just plain frustrating when it doesn't work out. Still, there's always another day, another record store...

  8. Marigold says Colin. Buying "The Last Beautiful Day" was an excercise in the vein of music nerd nerdiness. Just like the old school pre-internet days. Not like the current instant music gratification days we have now. I bought this having very little knowledge of what I was going to get. It is rare these days that I feel personally vested in actually trying to like something anymore. It is kind of a sad music consumer state that we all live in these days. I love that we can instantly hear anything we want nowadays, but I really miss the old days of taking a risk and being rewarded greatly. This is one of those rare cases.

  9. HelenMarie says I like the sobering drums in "It'll Be Alright" Scooted over to the space too, I would have to warm up a bit but I could see it fitting one of my moods. (Did I just admit I'm moody...?) Her voice reminds me of the Markita gal from the movie "Once" all the ladies (and sentimental guys) were swooning over. (more talk about tushes too....shaking head)

  10. Lady Miss Ian says Whadja du with yr old ass? Put it out to pasture? Ha ha ha. (I am such a nerd). Nice New Buffalo. I'd never heard of this band. It could complete my Buffalo section- Buffalo Daughter; Buffalo Tom; Grant Lee Buffalo; Buffalo Springfield; Buffalo 66.

  11. FluxCapacitor says "It is rare these days that I feel personally vested in actually trying to like something anymore." Yep, it's sad but true. Although, I do feel a personal connection after I've written about a band and understood more about what they're trying to say, and how they're trying to say it. It's a lovely song, btw. Heartfelt vocals and a striking arrangement. A fine addition to Lady Miss Ian's Buffalo canon, I'm sure. ;)

  12. Marigold says Ian.. there is nothing quite like a New Buffalo to add you your growing herd of bison. lol. SunnyD. Talking about tush should be a given when visiting one of my posts....you know the drill. ;) You must be in a weird mood today.....New Buffalo is to mellow and Torche was to loud. 80's pop radio it is for you then. ;)

  13. Marigold says Colin. I sure as hell would hate to be hit with a flying buffalo from Ian's cannon. It puts a whole new meaning to buffalo patties.

  14. HelenMarie says LOL @ Buffalo canon & patties! There's also jam band hippies "Donna The Buffalo". Re: my mood...I know, but I'm too picky for 80's pop either. That _rarely_ hits the spot.
