Rancid's. Tim Armstrong - A Poet's Life

Posted about 1 year ago
See that title up there? That title scared away about 1/2 of my readers. But no worries, it is hard to get to everybody’s posts that you want to anyways. So this is a treat for all of you who have came here through thick and thin this year. bad grammar, typos, mis-spells...and who cares i just want to talk about some tunes attitude! Yep, thats me.I picked Tim Armstrong because it is kind of an oddball record in my favorite records of 2007.Here are my favorite 12 albums from 2007. I will try to put ten in order for Dale's "MOG best of 2007" post which should be hitting his page on the 26th.(not in order)-yet.Miracle Fortress - Five RosesFeist - The ReminderSpoon - Ga x 5Maps - We Can CreateKevin Drew - Spirit If...Young Galaxy - S/TElectrelane - No Shouts No CallsThe Mabuses - Mabused!Radiohead - In RainbowsBlonde Redhead - 23Tim Armstrong - A Poet's LifeStudio - Yearbook 1Tim's backing band The Aggrolites do some really cool stuff as well. Here is a post I did earlier this year….. http://mog.com/Marigold/blog_post/93638

  1. amber says didn't scare me off! I wouldn't happen to have some of those albums, would I ??

  2. bubb says Cool list! I'm with you on 'Feist', & 'Radiohead' for now. But I'll definitely have to check out your other Recommendations. I've also heard 'Spoon' was really good and 'Blonde Redhead'! Thanks Bob

  3. Marigold says amber. Either way, you will have it. :) Nice to see you. bubb. Thanks. Check Spoon out live if you can. They may be the "tightest" band I have ever heard/saw perform. These guys are pros. Feist gives me goose bumps. Radiohead is just rocking me.

  4. Dale says Nice list there Mike. Kevin got me all worked up for this album before it came out. It didn't crack my top 30, although "Into Action" made my top 40 songs easily.

  5. Augusts1 says I'm liking this but Rawkiddo/Kevin posted about this album before the album was even released since they gradually did so song by song on the internet, then offered it as a free download as a thank you to his fans for awhile, if my memory serves me correctly. You know me & reggae, it's a transient thing for me, gotta be in the mood to hear it. But hell yea, this is as upbeat & fun as any reggae song I've heard in a long time,

  7. 1234chainsaw says Not bad, Mike, not bad at all. Of the things not on my list, I really liked the Maps record for the first three (or so) and the last three (or so) songs. I haven't even heard about Young Galaxy or Mabuses. If they're sweetness for shoegeezers, let me know!

  8. Marigold says Dale. I love every song on this record. Into action is a standout for sure. August. I found this record from Dale's half way thru 2007 best of post. I really know nothing at all about Rancid's music. You seem to know more about this cd then I do. lol. You are the mastermind after all. Maybe I should change your title from CMO to CMMO? (Chief Minion Mastermind Officer) SunnyH. Thanks, I will. Pekka. Thanks. Your Maps comment is pretty good. I limit to just one song....the song "Glory Verse" is terrible. I am not usually a song skipper, but that that song always bugs me because I love every song on We Can Create with the exception of that one song. I skip it every time. As Young Galaxy, they have some shoegeezer influence so you might find some enjoyment from the cd. I am not sure if you would like all of it, but there might be some gems on there for you. If you go to YG's lounge you will see that I have done a few posts on them. Steve Ramsey from YG is personally responsible for me finding MOG. He suggested I check MOG out. I have not left since. The Mabuses are more psychedelic pop type stuff. I have heard several people compare them to XTC. I should mention that bands like APTBS/Ceremony came a little too late in the year for me to really give them a fair shake. Ceremony I have not even heard the full cd because I still need to track it down.

  14. Marigold says Why would you want to be shot? If you were shot, then you would not be able to listen to Tim Armstrong any more.

  15. Doomsayer2001 says And that would be a blessing of the highest order.

  16. Marigold says ha. Maybe someday you will warm up to the reggae/ska vibe. OR NOT. I am thinking the latter. :)

  17. ardyjormkiv says (i must have missed this post! thanks for pointing me towards it on my mog) i'm very intrigued that you have maps on your top twelve. i haven't heard many people talk about it at all. i enjoyed it though. i have definitely not even heard of some in the latter half of your list...i will have to check them out!

  18. ardyjormkiv says in addition, VERY glad to see miracle fortress on there. have you had a chance to see them live?
    Permalink posted 12/28/2007
  19. Marigold says maps is a great cd. I am glad to know you are familiar with it. I have not seen MF live. I would love to. I can't wait to hear the next record. It is one of my most anticipated follow ups for me. Young Galaxy would be second. 2008 should be fun. I hope these two bands release some new goods in oh eight.

  21. goodmusiconly says I feel so out of it ... Miracle Fortress, Young Galaxy, The Mabuses?? I do love the Blonde Redhead album and I like what I've heard from the T.Armstrong album. Maps I really need to acquaint myself with, I've heard good things about it. Oy ... I don't know if I'm capable of doing a top 10 list but I suppose I should try. Cheers, Mike! :)

  22. Marigold says if you like XTC style pop, you might be interested in some Mabuses. It has been Mogtiplied if you are so inclined. Maps is a great one as well. If you ever get around to Maps and like it, you might like Miracle Fortress, Young Galaxy is just great. You have to do a top ten. Dale will be pissed and hunt you down if you don't. :)

  23. goodmusiconly says Note taken ... I'll stop by and check 'em out, thanks. Glad you liked the Charlene ... it's too bad we're not doing Top 10 lists for 2005 ... that's about how far behind I am!

  24. Marigold says I should really thank you. You have really hooked me up with some good tunes this year. The Chameleons, Charlene and I think I also got Film School from you on the other M. Oh, I almost forgot, Mazarin and The Kingsbury Manx (which I have not heard much yet, I am sure you can understand). Damn! You are my EMCD pimp and I am your ho.
