Noice. Kid A is monumental album. My fave Rhead cd is "Amnesiac" which is probably the least liked album of theirs in the general populace but it just totally grew on me. I like all the blips & bleeps. Good shit man.
Groon says
I love this song, man. First time I heard it was when they played it on Saturday Night Live and it completely blew me away (even posted the video once, but youtube has since taken it down). That's the first, and one of the only times, a SNL performance has done a song justice that I've seen, and it was amazing. But what else do you expect of these guys?
madrid spacestation spain says
fav radiohead album, and i feel a special kinship for national anthem, i will play this song a few times now. i think amnesiac gets a less than deserved rap too *august*, have to do something about that.
Marigold says
August. I really like Amnesiac as well and do agree it does not get the credit it deserves. It is a shame. I always have considered it Kid A's evil twin.
Oatmeal. I could not agree more. Kid A sounds great. I love cranking it up on the stereo and shaking the floor.
Jeff. The record does not need a lot of words. I feel it speaks for itself so I did not feel very inspired to babble about it.
Beetlebum. My Sister is a huge fan. Weird. :)
Madrid. Hands down. This is my favorite song on the record. That opening bass line seals the deal.
Bubb. Go Green Bay! :)
Augusts1 says
Well it is Kid A's equivalent since the two albums were recorded together with the intent of releasing as a double album I had read in reviews or interviews but then they decided that the songs would get more attention if released on two albums.
I think 'Idioteque' is my absolute fave on Kid A since it is the closest thing they've come to doing a techno/dance oriented song & I've always loved dance music. I listened to Kid A TO DEATH when it came out but I keep going back to "Amnesiac" over it. I love the chiming bells at the very beginning of "Pakt Like Sardines In A Crushed Tin Box", they are so haunting & will periodically pop into my head for no reason & make me want to hear the song. It's weird how it works. I also love the line at the end where Thom sings "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case, get off my case, get off my case."
I love me some Rhead, can you tell? heh I also saw them live on the Kid A/Amnesiac tour not too long after Amnesiac was released so that may be a good reason why it remains my fave cd.
bloodtea says
"Eight. Nine. Ten." as for Idioteque, Morning Bell, and Motion Picture Soundtrack?
When you speak of Radiohead there's only 3 albums that come to my mind "OK Computer", "Kid A" and "Amnesiac".
I believe their songs transmit a multiplicity of feelings that you can’t control.. I mean, if you're all sad and blue, they have this elegance in nailing you to the deep bottom of the ocean to, then, rapidly make you surface to a new state of relief and happiness.
But, if you’re already jolly happy... my friend, this is, without a doubt, a great soundtrack for happy moments as well.
Oh how I love Radiohead :-)
Hah, I might not be making sense at all, but who cares?
Marigold says
August. I feel like you are talking for me. You took my thoughts and ran with them.....and then typed them on my own blog. Damn you! ;) I am very jealous of the concert you made it to. I have seen Radiohead twice. Both during the Pablo Honey tour. Once headlining and once opening for Belly. Kind of a funny story about the second show. It was in Boulder, CO and our good pal Erin (goodmusiconly) was supposed to be there, but she missed it because Radiohead got bumped from headlining to opening band status. By the time she got there Radiohead was just finishing up. (we did not know each other at the time, but kind of a fun side story, right?)
Andrea. Eight. Nine. Ten as in in you need to have 10 words of text to create a post and I did not have enough so I typed the last three.
If you always made sense you would not quite be as fun. I get what you were saying....I think. ;)
bloodtea says
Yeah... know what your talking about..
Try being drunk or/and high all the time. At least everything seems damn right and the background music is lovely..
madrid spacestation spain says
i agree with your picks from amnesiac august, they are all of those things. don't forget morning bell though. that one is a_haunting_ number indeed.
Minimum of ten words! so Mog is all about quantity not quality huh? good thing the moggers more than make up for that.
Marigold says
Madrid. Yeah, it actually kind of irked me. I wanted this record to be able to speak for itself. That is why I went minimal on the text. Sometimes MOG needs a helping hand to do what you want to do with it.
Augusts1 says
Well Mike when you got minimal I had to get maximal, lol! Step aside doood, let me take over here, hehe. Glad I can read your mind. Funny story too Mike.
*Andrea* yes you are dead on about Rhead expressing a mulitplicity of feelings. They know how to communicate the emotions of fear, anxiety, anger, depression in song than most of us do in our real lives. I know that's why they are so popular & have a rabid cult following. They expressed the stress of modern living so well beginning w/OK & just built upon it.
*Madrid* thanks, both versions of "Morning Bell" are pretty awesome as well. I wouldn't argue w/anyone who would say any of the song on either Kid A or Amnesiac are brilliant.
*RADIOHEAD FANS UNITE !*
Mike that shark attack comment is _CRACKING_ me up!
bloodtea says
Maybe your parents were only preventing society from having you unleashed. One's talking about drugs and Mike has to ruin the atmosphere with some ass... Sheesh!
By the way, it's a freakin' codfish, not a shark - dumbass!
August, I bet Radiohead -would be- _are_ proud of us!
Augusts1 says
Yes I'm sure Radiohead IS so very proud of us, heh! And btw, no codfish is that big Andrea, so it's understandable why Mike would call it a shark, smartass, haha!
bloodtea says
hey! shut up will ya... I'm never wrong! that's a codfish made of wood, that's why it's big (don't laugh, it's true.. I was looking for the pic.. but my brains already messed up) hah.
Marigold says
August. Thanks for your maximusness. lol. It has been kind of nice to be talking about bands we each like. It prevents us from getting MADD at each other.
Andrea. You might be onto something. Maybe that is why they kept me so sheltered. Codfish aye? you sure about that?
ZenPop says
Great song... Great Album...
although I prefer "OK Computer" a bit better, this is right up there... When I first heard "Everything In Its Right Place" I was completely blown away....
...come to think of it... This album might be tied with "OKC"... Def Top 20 of All Time for me...
Marigold says
I think I prefer OKC as well hence it already being in. But Kid A has aged very well for me. I feel Iike I am always learning new things from it. OKC still has the lead. But Kid A is gaining.
Augusts1 says
Thanks Mike, yes, I agree, talking about bands we already know & like keeps us from getting MADD w/each other! I also agree that Kid A has aged very well. When I listen to OKC it sounds really dated to me where as Kid A & Amnesiac sound very current.
Andrea, that codfish is FAKE so it doesn't really matter after all now does it? ahahahaha
Augusts1 says
Uh yea, no 'Good Morning' for me, no 'Good Morning' for you . . .you . . . you . . .sis of a sea biscuit you, hehe!(hey at least I was saying 'Awwww poor BT', could've said worse, dontcha know? heh)
Augusts1 says
BRING IT! Kick away but remember we have an ocean & a continent inbetween us so internet kicking ain't going too cut it, hehe. You're quite the feisty chica this morning! You must've slept well!
Augusts1 says
Pinche Portuguesa, hee hee hee! You know I love ya darlin'!
Well, it's not noon there for another hour and a half, so you must've gotten up _early_ today!
Marigold says
Holy Crap. Talk about MOG hijacking! I laughed when I logged into my email this morning and BAM! You two were all up in my email. Good morning to both of you. lol.
Augusts1 says
I told ya I was taking over your post Mike, hahaha! I just got some help from Andrea, heh. Glad you got a kick outta it. You must've gotten a buttload of notices eh?
