3 Random Songs - Part 2

Posted about 1 year ago
I bring thee three random songs. Any thoughts?*First up!* The Mabuses. What can I say? It has a groove I can't deny.

  1. Marigold says *Second on the docket* A new one from Jason Collett's forthcoming cd Here's to Being Here. (Feb 5, 2008 Release Date) I have come across 3 songs off that cd so far. They all sound very solid to me. It is looking good that he will follow Idols and Exciles with another winner. *Last but not least, Number Three* A nice reggae jam to round things out.

  2. Augusts1 says Liking the Mabuses song, it's pretty psychedelic man. Not digging the Collett, it's ok, not my cup o' tea though. The reggae is alright, I have to be in a certain mood for it though. What's with the pics?

  5. dragonflyMay says Love the breathing fire picture. I enjoyed Jason Collett and 10 foot Ganja Plant. Reggae always goes well with a beautiful morning. peace OuT.

  6. Marigold says August. Jason Collett aint gettin no love? Man, that blows. I will never understand why this guy is not more talked about. He is making some great rock music. I love how he incorporates a bit o country with a bit o disco toward the end. Nice production as well. However, I am a slave to all things Broken Social Scene... Reggae will never click with some people and I totally understand. It took me several years to really bond with the genra. Now it is part of my musical being. Glad you liked the Mabuses. That cd is going to be one of my top 10 of 2007 that is for sure. Jeff. Leave it to you to bust in with your bong and ganja comments. You crazy cat you. ;) Did you notice I spelled ganja wrong on my track for 10 foot ganja plant? ha.. Colin. Glad you are liking the 10ft Plant. They are a fun current reggae band doing ole school style reggae and dub. dragonflyMay. Thanks for stopping by. It is always nice to see you in these parts. Have a wonderful Saturday. I hope I started you out the right way.

  7. indiepixie says since i am in the tropics rt now, the reggae fed my spirit well. however, on personal taste, i like numero uno....good solid rock stuff better than marmalade on toast to wake me up! :)

  8. Augusts1 says Colett is part of BSS? I didn't know that. Since I got into Feist earlier this year & Metric towards the end of the summer(then saw them live in Oct.) I've gradually been getting into BSS. Maybe I will give Colett a further listen since he's part of the collective. I went through a reggae phase in the late '80s early '90s w/Ziggy Marley. He was doing some unique stuff w/the genre but I find most reggae is just a retread & not that interesting so I lost interest. So what's up w/those pics you posted above?

  9. Marigold says indiepixie. Nice description. Thanks for listening. August. Jason Collett was not instant for me. Seeing him open for Feist about 2 years ago sealed the deal for me. He totally rocked the place and I had no idea he was going to be that good in concert. His record Idols of Exile is a totally awesome record and one of my favorite straight ahead rock records of the last 2-3 years. His first cd is not that good but Idols is really good and worth checking out. The pictures were taken this last Summer at my friends house. We sat out on his back deck and drank beer and watched the sun go down. It was a great night. If you look close, you can see that both pictures were taken from about the same exact spot on the deck. One just shows the fire goin. Good times, good Friends! I hear you about the reggae. I think reggae might be a more spiritual trance kinda thing. Thus kind of negating the similarity between a lot of the artists. I really can't pinpoint what it is for me because I know exactly what you are talking about. I just am overwhelmed sometimes to the deep spiritual groove it has. Praise Jah! :)

  10. Augusts1 says Interesting about Colett. Maybe he'll grow on me too since I trust your taste. Cool, I knew those pics had some background to them, that's why I was persistent in asking. Good times w/good friends, what life is all about! I'm sure you're right about reggae being a more spiritual thing for fans. I'm not an atheist but I'm certainly not for religion at all. Spirituality is a whole other thing. But then again I think reggae enthusiasts tend to fuel their spirituality w/beer or weed @; ), which I have no problem with at all, lol!

  11. HelenMarie says Good randoms...I like em all! Love that Mambuses song! I could picture Jason Collett playing around one of our bongfires - I mean bon fires. And reggae is regularly played on my back porch between the months of March & November and periodically through the winter since it still feels like summer sometimes. And that's a simply *fun* track... _'hey sunshine girl...hey summer love'_ ; )

  12. Marigold says August. He might. His cd Idols of Exile was a grower for me. You trust my tastes? Thats good to know since I am one of your trusted mogs. ;) Glad you like the pictures. I wish it was still summer... Your reggae comment may be partially true. I will say this though, I do enjoy reggae most of the time stone sober. But sometimes.... Sunny D! Bongfires? Sounds fun. I used to be a seasonal reggae listener but now I just regularly play reggae.

  13. HelenMarie says Mari*G*! Right on...We don't really have seasons here, so I guess I should be regularly playing reggae...say that three times fast. *; )*

  18. HelenMarie says Yes! I didn't know the name of the band though...master.
    Permalink posted 11/19/2007
  19. Marigold says I didnt either, I had to ask a co-worker. I am to lazy to do a search to confirm it so dont quote me. ....In the time it took me to write that, I could have googled it to confirm it. :)

  20. HelenMarie says AHhaha...I know how that is. Hey, does it look like I've had too many beer's in my pict over there...looks like my left eye is totally shut in the small picture. I'm having an identity crisis with my picture today.

  21. Marigold says It's the beer? I thought you were winking at me. :P

  22. ZenPop says wow... that Mabuses song kicks ass.... Thanks for the heads up... ...must... find... Mabuses.... I'm guessing the name's a reference to the old Fritz Lang movie...

  23. Marigold says Zen. Here is a link to a mog I did on them a while back. I link to Girlcrawl's post on my post. She gives a bit more history on the band. Between our two posts you can hear several songs. http://mog.com/Marigold/blog_post/116103 I am not sure on the name reference but I will take your word on it. :) Its funny that you like them. As I was looking at the bands you like on your MOG home page, I thought to myself that you may like them. Turns out you do. LOL. This song is a bit more trippy, but some of their other music is in the XTC brit pop vein.
    Permalink posted 11/19/2007
  24. ZenPop says Thanks for the link!... I'll definitely check it out... (and you can't go wrong dropping an XTC ref!)
    Permalink posted 11/19/2007
  25. Marigold says when you do down in the bottom of the comments of girlcrawl's post there is a link to where you can stream their entire new record which just came out back in September.

  30. Girlcrawl says Quite like random posts myself. Definitely dig the Mabuses song, and appreciate the props. Find the Jason Collett track a very solid listen. Had read about him a couple of times, but had not been able to hear his music - big thanks for the introduction. Am really enjoying both his voice and the musical arrangement - very promising indeed. 10 Foot Ganga Plant's Good Time Girl is fabulous as well. Excellent choices all, and a gem of a post. :-)

  31. Doomsayer2001 says Naw. I've just been busy with other things. In truth, I spend way to much time on the computer... I need to cut back. In the meantime... You probably have heard this, but if not, I think you will enjoy.

  32. ketut says One day my then pregnant wife and I were taking in a concert at Industrial Park on the north end of Lake Union when a tall rastafarian wearing roller skates danced up to us and stated, "The reason reggae is soo good mon? The beat matches the beat of mother earth. Keep dancing and that child will be blessed." and he skated/danced away. We listened to a lot of reggae while she was pregnant. Zoe ( my daughter ) is a gifted musician. Coincidence?

  33. poebegone says of course i lurv The Mabuses and Jason Collette, but Good Time Girl is the one doing it for me right now. is there some kind of conspiracy here?? nah, i think whichever lifts us all up wins the day. Mike, i never knew you for a reggae guy. is this a "fun" side you apparently have? (kidding.) thanks for intro-ing me to 50 Foot Ganga Plant (what a name).

  34. Marigold says Danny. It suits my mood as of late. I have been putting the mp3 player on random a lot. Girlcrawl. I dont mind givin props where they are due. :) Doom! First off. Sweet avatar, busting out some Cruicified graphics is cool in my book. The song you posted is sweet. You know me.....yep, I do own that cd and consider it to be the best of their cds. Nice call. Thanks for the song. I really appreciate it. Good seeing you back though. Keith. Great story. Ilay. Oh yeah. I listen to a lot of reggae and dub. Mostly mid 80's and older reggae. This song by *10 Foot Ganja Plant* (sorry I mis-spelled it on the player) happens to be a current reggae band from the US. They do a great job of catching that early reggae sound. Glad you like the 50 Foot Plant. :)

  35. poebegone says they're new? you are so right, they got the early reggae sound. very '70s, early '80s at the latest. diggin' it! hey, happy weekend and thanksgiving, Mike. (:
