After work today I decided that since I was downtown I would stop by the Electric Fetus (favorite local record store) and check the used and cut out bins. Holy MOG discs did I score! Several months back, June to be specific. I stumbled upon this thread....http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog_post/77605Flux's thread was a crucial thread for me when I first joined MOG. It is one of the first times I had the realization that MOG was a place I was going to hang out for a while. This also might be the post where the term shoegeezers was brought up? Or maybe Colin has been using the term for the last 65 years. :PFast forward to today. As I am checking the used bin. I stumble upon Flying Saucer Attack's S/T cd! I thought of Flux's post and new I had to get this disc! Funny thing is I would be dammed if I could not remember what the music was like. I just remembered I liked Flux's post and the music was good. After a good listen today I would say, Holy rip your head off assault of Guitars of Mass Destruction! (GMD)I wanted to upload the song "The Drowners" but that is the song Colin uploaded on his post. Here is plan B. I present you with the track "Make Me Dream"Here is what else I got at the store today:The Brother Kite - Waiting For the Time to be Right. (Thanks Pekka and Dachmo)Beulah - The Coast is Never Clear (Thanks Soulrocket)Beulah - Yoko (Thanks Soulrocket)And three free record label Sampler cds(more on that on another thread perhaps)

Yeah...
rub it in that YOU have a great record store!
Ours died back 2 or 3 years ago... (mumbles and whines to self)
We used to get to go and buy actual vinyl or severely out of print CD's.
But those days are dead. (Gentle weeping is heard in the background.)
Nice track btw... I like the split in the mix and the constant feedback/drone that makes the foundation of this song!
It's wonderful!!

I love the Electric Fetus! Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it up there since moving yet, maybe, hopefully sometime this week! And I too love browsing their Used bins, I've scored some great stuff like this there too

Dale. Thanks. :)
Doom. That is a bummer. I can't imagine not having a record store to go to. We have some decent ones here in the Twin Cities. Do you at least get out of town once and a while and go to a record store in a different city? At least you got the internet. But it is just not the same. Hang in there buddy.
Betherz. You need to get there this week. They are having a 20% off sale on music until the 31st.
Betherz247 says
Awesome!! I think that now going there has moved up to one of my top priorities! I'll probably end up going tomorrow cause just the thought of going through all their music makes me excited but when its on sale?! irresistible!

HOLY GMD'S BATMAN, this is some seriously great shoegeezing music! I'm love, love, loving this song Mike. Not heard of this group but HAVE to check em out now. I have a really great indy music store here that I frequent periodically & find some awesome shit in the Used bin. They have a $1 cd section where I've picked up some cool stuff like The Who's "Who's Next"(remastered), Ted Leo's new cd, The Long Winters "When I Pretend To Fall", 2 Q And Not U cds, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc. I've been amazed at all the great music I've p/u for next to nothing there, which is always fun!
Marigold says
Betherz, I just might see you. I plan on dropping back in there around 2:30 pm or so before I go back to work at 3pm. 20% off is just to sweet to pass up on.
August. Yep. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have found some sweet deals. I only paid 4.79 after the 20% discount for Flying Saucer Attack. It is so fun to find good deals on music. Have you ever found a cd that you already own for real cheap and almost wanted to buy it again because it was so cheap? I have that happend from time to time as well. Glad you like the post and the GMD.

Damn, I've been meaning to check FSA out for 5-6 years, but never got around to it until now. Thanks for enabling that, Mike. Good scores at the store, Beulah too.

i remember flying saucer attack first 2 albums and a couple of early 7s released by the uhf label in the states. this is good stuff, mike. it was labeled as narcotic pop back then.
Augusts1 says
Mike, yes I have seen cds I already have that were so cheap in the Discount bin I truly considered buying it again, but reason overruled when I would find something else I didn't have that I wanted.
Marigold says
Pekka. Thanks. Glad I could be of assistance to you.
Danny. Narcotic Pop? Nice. That sounds like a decent description for this chaos.
August. I never buy them either, but it is funny how it actually seems like a good idea for at least a second or two.
Groon says
Never heard 'em before, but that was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of Medicine, if you're familiar with them. I might have to do a Medicine post to tie-in. Noisy and shimmery always make for a great listen. Is the whole album in this vein? If so, I can see me making a quick stop soon. I was actually at our only decent store today, as a matter of fact. Wish I would've listened to this before I went.
Marigold says
Groon. YES! Medicine. I have totally been thinking about doing a post on them. Now that you say it, you are right. They are somewhat similar with how chaotic the music is. By all means, do a Medicine post. I loved their first two albums. I lost track of them on their last two. They had 4 right? (to lazy to look right now) And yes, all of FSA's songs are that vain. Did you check out the track on Flux's mog about them? If not, you need to check that one out as well.

Hi Mike, late arriving to this thread 'cause I was away for the w/e, but what a nice surprise on my return. Fantastic of you to remember that post.
As I mentioned in it, I got my copy on emusic. So, if anyone wants to get hold of it and has an account they can head over there. I don't think there's record shop in Ireland that would still be stocking it, and they defo wouldn't be allowed have the that name, Electric Fetus...haha...terrific.
Re. shoegeezers, I made that up for the post and it's great that it's stuck around...And that's a fantastic song choice off the album...man, it rocks!
Marigold says
Colin. Hey, I must give props where props are due. I would have never known of FSA unless you had done a post on it.
Why would Ireland not allow a record shop to have that name?
I love your shoegeezer title. I wear it with great honor.
Lizzie. Love the Yoda wording, but deal with it. You are getting older. :P
Girlcrawl says
Those are some abfab albums (great musical taste), and Electric Fetus has to be the best name for a record shop ever. 'Holy rip your head off assault of Guitars of Mass Destruction' is an excellent descriptor! Cheers.
poebegone says
i did not know FSA and i love what i'm hearing! (yes, that was an exclam point back there.) Beulah are great, i think i've only ever heard one song by The Brother Kite. love this post, Mike. not to mention that "Electric Fetus" and "narcotic pop" are such fun phrases. you rule.
