WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Frightened Rabbit - Sing the Greys

Posted over 2 years ago
How often is it that you go to a concert nowadays and hear an opening band and it inspires you to buy their cd? For me it is rare. Even though I try to go to all shows with an open mind and really listen to a bands music if I have never heard them prior. I had only heard of Frightened Rabbit because they were opening for a band near and dear to my heart, Pinback. I scanned their website and Myspace page quick the day of the show to get an idea of what I was about to hear. I was not blown away nor offended after a quick listen of their songs. See my review of the concert for what I saw. http://mog.com/Marigold/blog_post/118932

  7. amber says Ha ha ha! FR was so very appreciative of his support that he got me on the guest list for the show in Seattle. I can't wait to see this band for a couple of reasons: 1. the music is good and initial reports are that the show is even better and 2. a band that appreciates their audience is a band I can love. When they do something nice for a fan, whether it is signing an autograph, posing for a picture, or leaving tickets at the door, it is really nothing to the band member but everything to the fan. A band with heart is one that I can _love_. And once again, thanks Mike! You're the *BEST*

  11. HelenMarie says Haha! Dig that title "Be Less Rude" - along with the tune, of course.

  12. Marigold says SunnyD. I aggree with your thoughts on that song as well. It is such a simple truth that people should know. Where I work we often talk about some people that come up to us with all kinds of attitude and how we end up not budging and charging them more for our services. Where if someone is nice and fun and joking we actually tend to not charge them as much and are more apt to give them deals etc. Being Less Rude is something we can all take to heart.

  13. HelenMarie says I like your style!! I'd do the same thing if I could charge people according to their attitude. What kind of services do you provide there G...if you don't mind me asking of couse.

  14. Marigold says SunnyD. Lets just say that I am in the adult entertainment industry. :P ....I am in the Tradeshow Industry. I charge people 130.00 to rent a 8' table with a skirt or 120.00 to move a 50# box from and exhibitors booth to the dock and load it up on Fedex. I have also been known to charge 146.00 for a 10' x 10' piece of carpet.

  17. amber says Sorry about the extra comment...it didn't show when I was last here. BUT I REALLY MEANT IT! Ha Ha! This will be so great...seriously, I am like, hovering a foot above ground looking forward to this. And I will try to speak to them; I need to thank them for the tickets, and then there's these shoes I need to photo...

  20. goodmusiconly says Interesting you should post this Mike. I followed Jenny's lead a few weeks back and heard some tracks on the Fat Cat site but it didn't really grab me. But I'm liking what I'm hearing now. What a difference a day makes! Cheers, kitty. :)

  21. Marigold says Erin. They are in Denver tonight! :) Thanks for stopping by. Isnt that true. Music sometimes just needs to hit you at the right time in order for it to break the seal of the eardrums.

  22. amber says I'd rather be disappointed than aim low. But I did take 3 breaths. (didn't work--I'm still excited)

  27. Marigold says Jenny. Fallen off the top ten aye? Wow. I hear you. I was just thinking how crowded my ten of 07 are getting. I am going to have to bump some goodies. :( LHooQ. I expect you to be the coolest mogger ever. Thanks for stopping by. Glad to hear you like the FR. I hope you do a report on how the show goes, I am really curious to how other shows compares to mine. Take care!

  31. FluxCapacitor says Lots of passionate urgency in that record...and in the review...and in the rabbit you saw on the road! A great new band to keep an eye on - ta, Mike.

  32. Augusts1 says Hmmmm, liking these songs but now I have ANOTHER cool band I must check out hehe! Damn you Mike, lol!
    Permalink posted 10/23/2007
  33. Marigold says Anna. Are you saying I should trust you because you have scary rabbits as your avatar. I still a little leary of you. ;) Colin. The rabbit thing on the road as I was driving home was pretty crazy. It is a sign. It just has to be. August. Sorry. By being in the MOG community you just have to realize that you will always have ANOTHER band to check out. If you get to them or not is the big question. My list of bands to check out is very daunting. I doubt I will ever get to them all.

  34. Augusts1 says Don't be sorry Mike, it really is a good thing. I'm just playin' w/you! And of course I know it's the nature of this community(I better since I've been here over 10 months!).

  37. Marigold says August. I know you were just playing. Amber. Glad you liked and glad I was able to get you into the show. Sweet how that worked isnt it? Poe. Glad you like. Yep, this band sure caught me by surprise. Take care, good to see you back.

  38. Girlcrawl says Am so glad you did not motor over the road rabbit - am certain that would have resulted in some bad bunny karma. I'm enjoying FR's sound, and the enjoyment hasn't waned with repeat listens. Agree with Flux that the band possesses a 'passionate urgency' which carries forth in their music. Appreciate your enthusiasm as well, and think you are spot on. Excellent post.

  40. autohypnosis says I have certainly seen my share of crappy opening bands - more than I care to recall. But, on the flipside, there have been some concerts I've attended in which the opening band was who I wanted to see most. Off the top of my head, here are some of the best opening acts I've seen: Garbage (opening for Smashing Pumpkins) No Doubt (opening for 311) Lovedrug (opening for Copeland) 311 (opening for Cypress Hill) Bella Lea [later known as Ambulette] (opening for Engine Down)

  41. sam9muhr says Ooo I love checking out the opening bands. I'm a sucker for buying their CD, but I'd say that about half the time or more, I end up listening to the CD but a couple times. Buttt there still are the times when I'm really glad I bought something.

  42. Marigold says auto. Thanks for stopping by. sam. Yeah, it can be hit and miss sometimes. It was a rare ocassion for me this night when I not only liked the band but actually bought their cd. It was a refreshing twist from the normal opening band crapness..
