MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(50)

Heres some info on this guy.

He began playing music at age 16 learning his licks from such Delta Blues men, as Mississippi Fred McDowell and Muddy Waters. Burnside started out on the harmonica but soon switched to the guitar. He says, "I just couldn't get the hang of it". Passing on his skills has been part of the process and he in turn has mentored his share of blues men including grandson Cedric and Delta Blues performer Kenny Brown.

His music was used in the recent film "Black Snake Moan." His 'adopted' son Kenny Brown was also in the film. Burnside passed away in 2005.

His son Cedric Burnside used to be the 2nd guitar player for the NMAS. It would be cool to see a tribute album come out. A lot of people have covered his material or been heavily influenced by his work.

I can never remember the name of the album he did with Jon Spencer, but man that crap was insane. Damn shame that it took a Fat Possum album with a contemporary artist backing him in the late 1990's to get R.L. into my brain ...

ASS POCKET OF WHISKEY ... That's it!

Yeah, a tribute album is definitely necessary. Here's one of my favorites of his...one that the NMAs did quite a nice job with, but nothing tops the original

...and it was actually Duwayne Burnside who was once in NMAs, but Cedric may have performed with 'em a time or two ;O)
