So I've noticed that I'm listening to a lot of stuff I listened to, oh, about ten years ago. Ten years ago I had "Pisces Iscariot" on all the damn time! When I wasn't listening to that I had on Dinosaur Jr's "Without a Sound".
Now I'm wondering, is it me? Am I getting old? Or is it just because I listened to both these albums at the same time in my life? Because now that these two have made it back into the everyday playlist, I'm noticing that these albums sound a LOT alike. Funny thing is, while I have plenty of other Pumpkins, this is the only Dinosaur Jr CD I own. Go figure.
Shiina Ringo's shown up in my playlist again, too. And I mean, a LOT of Shiina. But there's a catch here, too. A couple years ago when I first discovered here, it was all about her then latest album, Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana. This time, while I still love me some Souretsu and Okonomide, it's all about Muzai Moratorium. I've even made a new CD for the car that is ALL Shiina, and I find the songs that end up on repeat are Akane Sasu Kiro Terasaredo and Marunochi Sadistic. What's up with that?
Another constant in the playlist is Peeping Tom. Almost this entire elbum is in the everyday playlist (cleverly titled *Music, so it's the first in the Playlist menu). It never gets old. OK, I admit, I'm starting to get tired of it. Sort of. I can't help but wonder if it's the sudden re-infatuation with Shiina, though.

Listening to stuff that you haven't heard in a while is always nice just because of the intense nostalgia that usually occurs.
Hey, we are all getting older right?.... in fact, you bringing up the Pumpkins and Dino Jr. make me think you are getting about as old as I am- ha ha.
At any rate, if you are like me, listening to music, discovering new music, sharing music, etc. is like a drug addiction. It always has been. So, with that said, what I was addicted to 10 years ago shouldn't be locked away in a box forever. There was a reason why those bands resonated with us back then. I would pat yourself on the back for having the where-with-all to go back and pull those records out! They are part of who you are and what you are listening to today.
I mean, what do you say when someone asks, "What do you listen to?" Where do you start, right? How many favorite bands have you had through the different stages of your life? Do you tell them exactly what you listened to the day they asked the question, or do you start from the beginning? You almost have to find a middle ground, right. Inveriably, my answer usually lists a couple genres specifically important to me to get the idea that older music is important to me, and then list about 3 or 4 bands that popped up on my iPod today... making sure atleast 2 of them are something they've heard of so to not end the conversation (not my fault, I live in the midwest- ha ha).
My point is, its not that we are getting old, its just that sometimes we need to go back in revisit the place, so to speak, we came from... not only musical tastes, but life, in general, too.
