WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Insane Clown Posse - what am I thinking?

Posted over 2 years ago
Following a sustained campaign to indoctrinate a musically naive friend into the world of the Beastie Boys, which culmulated in forcing him into a knee deep swamp to watch them perform at Roskilde festival (I assume they were brilliant, but if I'm honest I was so drunk on cheap carton wine that I can only remember snippets), I agreed in return to listen to his complete collection of Insane Clown Posse. The first couple of albums I took in (Basement Cuts and Beverley Kills) found me deeply regretting this promise. I don't know anything about the act, and haven't finished listening to the complete works yet, but what I heard makes me suspect that I may be putting myself in the line of fire by posting ICP here. The beats were shoddy, the lyrics unremittingly offensive and misogynistic, and, although I'm sure ironic humour was the intent, it was delivered in such a purile manner as to fail completely. But, if I was going to tear apart his choice, I felt I had to persevere and complete the collection, so eventually I got to 'Bizzar' - what can I say... I don't know if this is much later and they grew up, or whether it's an early release and they lost their way, but, while all the offensiveness and misogeny is still there, this is actually pretty funny stuff - and massively superior to the others musically too. There's actually quite a few tracks on this album that I really like, but I felt I should post this one because it had me laughing out loud, even through a previously black mood. I have to admit that finding this as funny as I did may rely on having a background in the underground music industry. Not sure I'd call myself a fan, but this album, and this track in particular, defiinitely deserve a listen.
