Pete Drake - Talkin' Steel Guitar

Nashville pedal steel guitarist Pete Drake is truly a phenomenon. Not only has he been the man behind hundreds of country music hits, but through his recordings with Elvis Presley, George Harrison and Bob Dylan, is singlehandedly responsible for opening the entire pop and rock field to the sounds of the pedal steel.
Years before Peter Frampton stuck a tube in his mouth and asked the world, through his guitar, "do you, YOU, feel like I do?" there was a fellow who wanted to make his pedal steel guitar talk. And talk it did. Welcome to the wondrously weird musical universe of Pete Drake: Welcome To My World, Blue Velvet, Am I That Easy To Forget, Only You, Roses Are Red... and here you can see Pete in action, with his whole crew of slightly scary looking players and singers, performing Forever.

But wait! There's more! It's entirely likely that you've heard Pete already! You just didn't know it was he providing that gorgeous, slippery accompaniment for Bob Dylan on Lay Lady Lay.
Thank you, Pete!

Ms. Burke, I always wondered how Pete and Peter did that, but didn't have your gumption to seek out the answer. This revelatory post also has fine tuneage.

Hey lady! You always run around with open parenthesis?
Not intentionally...I was busted for that in '72.
Tell me about it! Let me tell you...don't EVER dangle a participle in minneapolis!
"gorgeous"and "slippery"...two words I apply to my women rather than music. As if committing crimes against grammar hasn't been enough of a crown on your head today Miss Madeline, inventive adjectives can be added to your winning haul.
It's been awhile since hearing Mr. Dylan...such a gorgeous song, with, yes, slipperyness. And that video of Pete is something else - proof indeed that looking MTV good wasn't a requirement in country music.
Keep these good surprises coming as the snow drifts higher.
