Can You Deal With It?
-
Artist:

Andre "Mr. Rhythm" Williams is a R&B legend, and you may not even know it. He wrote "Shake A Tail Feather," and sang such uber-raunch cult classics as "Bacon Fat" (covered by the Cramps), "Greasy Chicken," and the epitome of songs about little girls, "Jail Bait." He worked at seminal labels such as Motown, Chess, and Fortune. He wrote songs for, or produced folks Ike Turner, Parliament/Funkadelic, Edwin Starr and Stevie Wonder.Traveling from Chicago to New Orleans on the mainline, R&B cult hero Andre "Mr. Rhythm" Williams has teamed with the Crescent City's hedonistic barroom punks The New Orleans Hellhounds. Like the unique city his backing boys call home, 'Dre has been dirty, down, broke and pushed to the edge of oblivion more than once, but both have managed to keep a glint in their eye and a strut in their step. The original Black Godfather wants us all to know on "Can You Deal With it?"(album release date - July 29th,2008)that he can still get around and get down with a Hellhound Sound that's as thick as an August night in the bayou. The guy is like music's version of Zelig; he's been everywhere, man. Yeah, baby.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
More than a character! Nice one..
You don't happen to know what he did for Parlaiment/Funkadelic?
I'm so down with the hellhound sound!
shake a tail feather indeed
Cody B - I don't have specific track names, but he was ALL OVER Parliament and Funkadelic in the early seventies. There is hardly an album, including those with George Clinton where he does not get a credit...producing,writing songs, singing back up, and playing guitar. ( Did you know, because of the love of a woman, Andre converted to Judaism and was circumcised when he was 50 some years old? I read an interview where he talks about the experience and it was hilarious!)
I have read a bunch on Andre, including a nice piece in the 'zine Roctober (issue 17). In the article he never mentions working with George Clinton..not that that means much. I'm sure they know each other from Detroit associations and the fact that George and Andre both worked at Motown at one time or another. I'm also sure he was a huge influence, however...I see absolutely no evidence of him ever getting credit for anything in the P-Funk oeuvre, pre-1980. He has lots of credited contributions (writing and playing) for george clinton solo work (80's), but nada on the core 70's P-Funk records, well he did appear on '79's Glorryhallastoopid..Wasn't he out of commission (drugs) for almost the entire 1970's?
Here's what I see him on in the Pfunk and related discog:
Parliament - Gloryhallastoopid [Casablanca 842622, 1979]
Parliament - Trombipulation [Casablanca 842623, 1980]
Funkadelic - The Electric Spanking of War Babies [Warner 3482, 1981]
George Clinton - You Shouldn't-Nuf Bit Fish [Capitol 96357, December 1983]George Clinton - Some of My Best Jokes Are Friends [Capitol 96356, July 1985]
Mr. Fiddler - With Respect [Elektra 60959, 1990]
Trey Lewd - Drop the Line [Reprise 26319, September 1992]
George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars - Dope Dogs [Hot Hands 087426, 1995]
George Clinton - T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M. [550 Music/Epic 67144, June 1996]
Funkadelic - Complete Recordings 1976-81 [Charly 23, 2000] 4 CD set
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Freaky Styley [Capitol 40377, produced by George Clinton]
He was pretty much a street junkie there for a while...I probably got the date wrong, I was going on memory, always a mistake at my age!
This is a wild tune,BTW! Totally digging!

No worries..George Clinton had problems of his own as well! His early 80's records were like a little musical rehab w/Sly Stone, Andre,Eddie Hazel, and Himself all getting back on their feet around then.
I am dealing with it...
