We Wanna Know!

Living as I do, with three generations of Burkes under the one roof,my two grandchildren, Orion and Haley Rose are on to the Mog.Every once in a while, to humor them, I will post, with their assistance, a song of their choosing. They are heavily guided by "Gagaji" (insert laugh here)..Grin and bear it folks, ya gotta start somewhere!

  2. Madeline Burke says Waydutch! I forgot about the no yellow button thing when I posted earlier. I almost always upload my own tracks but things are still a little hectic. Somehow we moved the whole fam damnly into one BIG house. I grabbed the third floor "crow's nest" room.We sail on...

  3. mollifire says way to go getting the crow's nest. that was my room as a teen. very cool to think of MOG being used by 3 generations in the same family. that's a trip!

  5. Wahiawa786 says So this is the original version! I remember the folk versions during the 1960's between shifting from Cal Tjader to Elvis Presley to The Kingston Trio. Sounds great, upload more Spike Jones, what I have is somewhere in a pile of vinyl LPs along with Frank Zappa's fave, Edgard Varese.

  7. fairportfan says Spike Jones was a true American Original; i cherish a memory of him appearing with his band on Jack Benny's TV show, with Benny taking a guest solo with the band. As i recall it: Jones was conducting with a long-barrelled revolver; almost as soon as Benny began playing, Jones reacted with disgust and shot him. Benny slumped back against the wall, continued playing. Jones shot him again. Benny slid down to a seated position on the floor. Continued playing. Another shot. Flat on his back, still playing. Two more shots. Benny finally dies, but not before finishing his solo.

  8. Madeline Burke says I LOVE that story! Thanks! I sort of collect these little anecdotes and such about musicians and their lives. The fringe info that adds the humor and humaness to this ever increasing digitally uploaded world of ours.

  9. TylerDurden says MB -> so you all sit in seperate rooms on seperate computers on seperate MOG accounts Mogging us all some tunes? Have I got that right -> dinnertime at the Burke house must be a thrilling time! Crazy old tune -> Thanks

  10. Madeline Burke says Not even close! Right now I have the only computer in the house...the kids are always wrangling for internet time so they can play games and kid stuff. I made the mistake one evening of noodling with them on MY mog (I have the only account) and posting Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport with them and they picked out the kangaroo picture and thought it was some kinda deal I guess. They still bug me for way too much game time, but they also ask to put songs on MOG...But we do all have our own rooms and dinnertime, as a matter of fact, is a goddamn riot! Thanks for asking.

  12. fairportfan says Of course, the funniest part of the "jack Benny is a terrible violin layer" is that it's about as true as the "Jack Benny is a tightwad" or "Mary Livingstone is a scatter-brain" jokes - not true at all. When Adolph Marx met Benny Kowalski, he was playing fiddle in a Waukegan vaudeville house band. You didn't get - or hold - that sort of job unless you could sight-read (or play be ear) almost anything, because you never knew what this week's acts would need in the way of music. Young Mr Kowalski broke up over the antics of young Mr Marx. Years later, Jack Benny couldn't work on the same stage as Harpo Marx, because he broke up every time he saw him in haracter...

  13. Madeline Burke says I knew they were both great musicians, and Zeppo on piano was no slouch either. It's funny you should mention Harpo, we just had a discussion about him and his harp playing...we were going to search YouTube for some vid.

  14. TylerDurden says Word -> gotta beat the kids away from the computer with a stick I'm sure -> cool they are into your MOG though -> Tie me kangaroo down, Sport is a serious classic.

  15. Madeline Burke says I feel it is one of my most important jobs as a grandmother to school them in the classics....

  16. fairportfan says Actually, Chico (Leonard) was the piano player. Harpo's autobiography, *Harpo Speaks* is well worth finding if you can. After you read *Harpo Speaks*, see if you can find a science-fiction story by *Randall Garrett* entitled *Operation Mapcase*, which is funny anyway, and a *lot* funnier the more you knoe about the Marx Brothers. Kind of liek *The Rutles* is fairly funny by itself, but absolutely hilarious in places if you're a Beatle fan,

  17. Madeline Burke says Chico it is! And I have heard of the Harpo Speaks book, and I should track a copy down.I used to have a lot more time to read.Did you remember that song that Hello Stranger reminded you of?

  18. Bartleby says That song was enough to win me over. The stories both yours and Fairport's were the cherries on the gum if I may say so.

  19. fairportfan says Oh - yeah; i didn't have to think about it; it's a different song (by A.P.Carter). also called *Hello Stranger* that Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore sang on their *Two Roads* live in Australia album; once i get home, i can upload it. Meanwile, here's Ricky Scaggs and Emmylou Harris:

  21. mollifire says MB - one of these days, you should definitely help them create their own MOG accounts. that would be so cool!
